A Day with... (from 2009)

For those of you not on Facebook, Diogo posted the following picture to both his Portuguese and English pages today, saying on the pages, respectively: "Bom dia!!! Mas afinal, quantos dias é que dura o jetlag??" (Good morning!!! But after all, how many days it lasts jetlag??) and "Jet Lag!!!! Oooooouuuuchhh it hurts."

It seems maybe Diogo is adjusting to being back on Portugal time after his recent trip to Los Angeles to film an episode of "Revenge" perhaps?  (There is an eight-hour time difference between the two.)   And while thankfully jet lag isn't a always a part of his daily routine, there's no doubt his days are indeed busy, even more so now, I imagine.

Before "Revenge," there was "Vingança"

As we not-so patiently wait for Diogo's episode of "Revenge" on September 29th, I thought we could continue our look back at his previous "revenge" series, "Vingança."  In this 2007 series that was inspired by the classic novel "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas, Diogo played "Santiago Medina."

So in light of the recent, awesome news that Diogo will be guest starring on the season premiere of ABC's hit drama "Revenge," I thought we could take a look back at the last time Diogo appeared on a series seeking revenge.  Of course, I am referring to SIC TV's 2007 series "Vingança" where Diogo played "Santiago."

Specifically, today's "Clip of the Day" comes from a behind the scenes interview Diogo did to try to talk about his character, Santiago, but as you will see, the reporter had other plans.  :)  Our dear friend Lou da Gama was kind enough to translate this fun interview for us, found right below the video.

Emmy chat

As we anxiously await for the Emmy nominations to be announced on Thursday morning, and root for Diogo, Darwin, the series and all involved with "The Bible," I thought it might be neat to take a look back at when Diogo, along with his fellow cast and crew of "Laços de Sangue" ("Blood Ties"), won an International Emmy in 2011 for "Best Telenovela."

So, today's "Clip of the Day" comes from November 2011, when Diogo, his co-star Diana Chaves, and SIC network's general director Luís Marques appeared on SIC TV to discuss their very recent Emmy win.  Our ever amazing friend Lou da Gama translated Diogo's parts of the interview for us, which, (with time marks) can be found below the video.

Drive Time

Last time, we took a look at Diogo turning the tables and being the host/interviewer.  Today we will again see Diogo in the driver's seat -- this time, literally.

Today's "Clip of the Day" comes from 2011, when Diogo appeared on the automotive show called "Volante" ("Steering Wheel.")  Similar to the BBC's hit series "Top Gear," for this episode, Diogo was the celebrity guest asked to drive the "mystery car."  The incredible Lou da Gama kindly translated this fun segment for us, found right below the video, and includes the time marks for Diogo's parts on the show.

Diogo on "5 Para Meia-Noite" - a Clip of the Day

Today's "Clip of the Day" comes from 2009, when Diogo was a guest on RTP's late-night talk show, "5 Para Meia-Noite," ("5 to Midnight") this time with host Filomena Cautela.  Specifically, it's a clip from a segment they do on the show called "Hero or Villain" where the guest, in this case Diogo, is shown pictures of two people/things, and must say which is the hero, and which is the villain.  Our friend Lou da Gama was kind enough to translate this for us, and even though some of the choices are Portuguese references we may not know, it is still a fun clip that shows just what a good sport Diogo is with a great sense of humor.  You can find Lou's translation below the video.

Do You Believe in Magic?

While watching daredevil Nik Wallenda's logic-defying high-wire walk over the Grand Canyon last night, I was reminded of a clip I had seen online of Diogo that I wanted to share.... 

So today's "Clip of the Day" comes from SIC's "Minutos Mágicos" ("Magic Minutes.")  This fun show features magician/illusionist/host Mário Daniel traveling across Portugal showing people he meets on the street various magic tricks "in plain sight," aka without any special effects.  In 2010, Diogo was Mario's special guest on "Minutos Mágicos," and our friend Liliana was kind enough to translate his appearance on the show for us, which can be found right below the video.

Say cheese!

Since yesterday's post was all about pictures of Diogo, I thought it might be cool if today's post was about Diogo stepping behind the lens to be the one TAKING pictures. 

So, today's "Clip of the Day" comes from July 2012, when Diogo appeared on the RTP1 show, “Cinco Sentidos” ("Five Senses") to discuss "Portugal, O Melhor Destino" ("Portugal, the Best Destination") a campaign for which he was an appointed "ambassador."  "Portugal, O Melhor Destino" was a nationwide project that asked all Portuguese to unite to show that Portugal is a prime tourist destination by taking and submitting pictures that showed their pride and patriotism.  

In just two months, the project gathered 77,053 images from nearly 15,000 people all around Portugal.  These images were then put together to create one of the biggest photo albums in the world.  Diogo was one of those proud Portuguese who submitted pictures for the photo album, which he discusses in the clip below.  Our friend Lou da Gama translated this fun interview that shows us yet another talent of Diogo's, and you can find that translation right below the video.

"Reporter: If you are proud to be Portuguese, then you just have to join the world's largest photo album. For this you just have to pick a camera and show why our country is the best destination. (to Diogo) You are an ambassador of this cause. You said yes right away (to the invitation), because you’re proud to be Portuguese.
DM: I’m proud. I’m very proud to be Portuguese. I think that what we lack is us having the notion that we are truly valuable, and good, and unique. And we are a people who are rare to find.
Reporter: I'm going to ask you to take some photographs to test your quality as a photographer. Can you?
DM: Okay! Do you want me to use this camera? This camera of low quality that you brought?
Reporter: This is weak! This is weak!
DM: It is. But I can use it. Come on! Give it to me! I'm entering the site essentially to understand the extent to which the campaign is reaching out to people, and obviously I will be curious about the comments that people will eventually make upon the photos that I take.
Reporter: You will also be able to vote. You can’t vote for yours, can you?
DM: I can’t? Why can’t I vote for my photographs? I will only vote for mine! I’m kidding.
Reporter: What do you like best to shoot?
DM: Look! I essentially enjoy photographing people. I love photographing faces and situations.
Reporter: Paparazzi!
DM: A little bit. Maybe I would be a perfect paparazzo. In this event, in this campaign, my participation is going to be a more active participation. I set out to do exactly that. I will travel from the north to the south of the country photographing the Portuguese people, which I think it is what we have to be proud of most… our Portuguese spirit." "Episódio Directo" with Diogo (from 2009)

Still reeling from the excitement and appreciation for Diogo's amazing Q&A here on the blog, today's "Clip of the Day" stays with that theme... it comes from August, 2009 when SIC and E-Especial did a live broadcast online with Diogo called "Episódio Directo com Diogo Morgado" where he answered online questions from fans directly.  And our dear friends Liliana and Lou da Gama were both kind enough to translate a half hour each of this ONE HOUR "interview" for us, which you will find below the video/link.

Reporter (Margarida): Good afternoon everybody, welcome Diogo Morgado.
DM: Hi!
Reporter: Welcome to "Episódio Directo" [Live Episode], you know questions will pour…
DM: Yeahh rain is a good sign! I’m ready to get wet, let’s go!
Reporter: Right? Let’s go then… First question: - “I would like to know, as an actor, which character did you like to do the most. Hugs and cheers for your career, you are a great host too.”
DM: Thank you!! What’s his name?
Reporter: Miguel. 
DM: Miguel, honestly, for me… I love what I do. To me, work is everything and I think that the difficult parts are always the last ones. It’s the last thing you do. For what I’ve done, the most difficult is the last one, the one I am doing, now, there’s a sense of responsibility. We know what the people like, and that always adds to the difficulty level. I try to innovate always and that is difficult. Veeery difficult. Everything is invented, now!
Reporter: Miguel also thinks you are a great host. Have you thought leaving acting and turn into that?
DM: Noooo. No. No. No. No. 
Reporter: The ideal was for you to do both…?
DM: No. I say this and have no problem with that, I am not a host. Inside what a prototype host is, a person who is ready or hosting any kind of events, I am not a host. I am someone who likes to communicate with people, and that feels at ease hosting some things, some events and situations. I like almost everything that has to do with direct contact with the audience. The program “Da-lhe Gás” that I made here at SIC, had about 700 kids in the pavilions, and there was much shouting, a big mess, and I was the master of the game. For me that was kidding, not hosting, I was like the older brother, playing with them. The game becomes a tv program. So… thank you, I appreciate it, Miguel, but I do not see myself as a host. If I have to do and identify with the project… the last thing I hosted, and maybe that is what Miguel is talking about,   was “Amor de Verão” here at SIC, and I had contact with the audience, that was a challenge and I had lots of friends who sang there, so I did it with pleasure, It was great. 
Reporter: So Diogo Morgado is and will be an actor.
DM: I….. try to be! Yes!!

Today's "Clip of the Day" comes from a segment that SIC TV's E-Especial did with Diogo "practicing" for an upcoming scene from his 2008 SIC series, "Podia Acabar o Mundo" ("The World Could End.")  He gets a little help from his young co-star, Afonso Lopes, who played his son in the series.  Liliana translated this very fun clip for us, found below the clip/link.

Diogo on "5 Para A Meia-Noite" in 2011

Today's "Clip of the Day" comes from "5 Para A Meia-Noite" ("5 to Midnight") -- a late-night talk show that airs nightly on network RTP, with a different host each night. 

On this particular visit Diogo made to "5 Para A Meia-Noite" in August of 2011, the host was Nilton -- a humorist, writer, and actor -- and judging from some of their tweets, Nilton is also someone Diogo respects and likes quite a bit. :)

Keep that in mind as you watch this rather "tongue in cheek" uh, "interview."  Which, by the way, the ever awesome Lou da Gama kindly translated for us, and can be found right below the clip.

NEW Interview with Diogo from Luxembourg

Diogo was in Luxembourg this past weekend, where he attended a dinner at the invitation of the owner of Brasserie Chez Ana Paula in Rollingergrund.  Also at the dinner was director Ruben Alves whose latest film, "La Cage Dorée" ("The Golden Cage") was screened in Luxembourg on Saturday.  Diogo attended the screening, tweeting a picture from it, and calling "La Cage Dorée," a "beautiful and unique movie of Ruben Alves. Outstanding!!! Grande filme." (You can see the trailer for "La Cage Dorée" here.)

Also while in Luxembourg, Diogo sat down to chat with BOMDIA Luxemburgo, and you can see his interview below, followed by a translation from @Msliliana:

"Diogo Morgado: Empathy for the immigrants it’s huge.....

Question: How did the opportunity to make “The Bible” come about?

Diogo Morgado: Funny, because the first question that people ask me in Portugal is that one –- how did that opportunity come out?  And I say, like any other else in the acting world -- there was casting and they made a natural selection. I think people in Portugal are not so used to the American format. American Culture has its own characteristics, obviously has its flaws, but also many good things, has virtues that should be copied, like this project. Americans are not so interested about your background, or where do you come from. Since you are the one for the part, they will hire you. It’s funny, because Americans never ask me that! Portuguese always do!

Diogo Morgado -- "Entre Nós"

One of my main goals in doing this blog is for you and I to get to know Diogo better.  To that end, today and tomorrow's "Clips of the Day" are from a great, in-depth, and lengthy interview with Diogo from the SIC Mulher show "Entre Nós" ("Between Us") that aired on Friday, November 30, 2012.

After doing this interview, Diogo tweeted "Just got out of the studio where I talked with the sweet Adelaide de Sousa for the program "Entre nós."  It was a good, honest conversation, talking about things that I normally do not speak about. I hope you like it." (via Google Translate.)

I'm pretty sure you'll like it. :)  Especially thanks to our Portuguese heroine, @MsLiliana, who translated the ENTIRE interview for us.  The interview is nearly an HOUR long, so I am posting it in two parts.  Here is part one of Diogo on "Entre nós," with Liliana's translation provided right below the clip.

DM: Yes a younger brother, 6 years younger, Pedro – little kiss for Pedro.
AS: Pedro writes? He is a writer?
DM: Yes, Pedro, my brother, he as a degree in cardio pulmonology, he works in a pharmaceutical enterprise, but one of his great passions is writing.  He was always pretty good at that. He wrote a romance called “Instantes Inqueitos” (“Restless Moments.) I may be biased, but it’s a very interesting book, especially coming from a young man… talks about what haunts us, nowadays. He has all the qualities to be a great author.

Making of "Dreambooks" Video with Diogo!

Okay sorry for a 2nd post today so soon, but an awesome fan, Eva Lin, posted this great video of Diogo on my Diogofanfriends Facebook page, and I had to share.  

It's behind the scenes of Diogo working with "Dreambooks" photo books that he referenced in the interview from today's "Clip of the Day."  This video is from 2010, so it was before the interview on "Boa Tarde" obviously, but it's a fun little video, so I wanted you all to see it.  Thanks Eva Lin!

Clip of the Day - Diogo on "Boa Tarde"

In honor of Diogo tweeting today from Portugal, today's "Clip of the Day" is Diogo in Portugal, on Portuguese TV, talking about Portugal!  :)

Specifically, it's a great interview from SIC TV's popular daytime show, "Boa Tarde" that Diogo did in August of 2012, to discuss "Portugal: Melhor Destino" ("Portugal: The Best Destination" -- the campaign for which he was an "appointed ambassador of Portugal."

Diogo appeared on the show alongside Bruno Pinto, from the "O Melhor Destino" organization, and was interviewed by "Boa Tarde" host, Conceição Lino, who, according to our very own Portuguese ambassador, @MsLiliana, is one of the most familiar faces on SIC.  MsLiliana was also kind enough to provide a translation of Diogo's part of the interview, which you can find below the clip.

"Conceição Lino/ CL: If you are one of those Portuguese so proud to say that you are from this country in the point of Europe that in times conquered half the world, then you will like my next guests! The initiative “Portugal: O Melhor Destino,” with the collaboration of all Portuguese people, is creating the biggest photo album in the world. Any of us can participate. To give us more details we have here the ambassador of this initiative, Diogo Morgado, and Bruno Pinto, from the organization. 

Diogo Morgado/DM: Hello, good afternoon! I've missed you Conceição!  (Note: Diogo had cooked with Conceição on the show the year before.)

CL: Awww round of applause for him!  Diogo, since you are here so close to me... (Diogo interrupts: I asked for it! I asked to be closer!)  How did you get to be the ambassador of this initiative?

DM: It was from a company that I've worked with for awhile, Dreambooks, that made this invitation to me, explained to me this action, and I immediately bought the idea. First because I am one of those proud Portuguese who is really proud of our history, our little country that makes such great things, and that is so capable.  So for me, it makes all sense at this time when we, a little bit in low self-esteem.   (Conceição interrupts… “little?” A lot I say!) 

DM: Well I was being an optimist… But it’s initiatives like this that give us the more optimistic side of things, looking to the good part… to the real part! Sometimes we just look at the bad things and forget the real good things that should give us strength to move forward. And I think that Portugal as so many good things, especially the people -- the effort and enterprising we've made to overpass difficult situations, and primarily when bad things happened.  And unfortunately we had many of those cases – Portuguese people unite in a completely unique way.

[Fast Forward to 04:02]

DM We received more than 22,000 pictures so far, people are participating in large-scale. Including not only pictures, but also the comments they make.  People are really proud and have a real need of showing that their place, their location as a special, magical nook that says something unique, that tells them something…

CL: What is your special place?

DM: Look, my special place is my home! (They laugh.)

CL: But for the special places in Portugal that you know, do you have any place that pleases you? Or you don´t want to tell?

DM: No, no… undoubtedly I can say it, because people will understand that it is a place that says much to me. Where I grew up, thought, meditated, and sometimes made some hard decisions.  That is Praia da Fonte da Telha! (Beach).

DM: As Bruno was saying, I shall say that I like this initiative so much, that I proposed to myself and to the organization for me to go from the north to the south of Portugal to make a collection of what I think is characteristic of our country.  And you will be able to find me somewhere… the script is already set, only missing are the exact dates, but I invite people to go to the website -- Portugal: O Melhor Destino, or go to my Twitter - @D_Moragdo, I will post there the dates and places and invite people to come. Trailer for "Break" -- A Film by Diogo Morgado

So today's "Clip of the Day" was actually inspired by yesterday's awesome guest "Throwback Thursday" posts by blog contributors @Celena229 and @Jodiedebb, who both featured projects where Diogo's co-star's was Lúcia Moniz.  Many of you commented here, via e-mail and with tweets about being fans of Lúcia, so I wanted to share with you another project she and Diogo collaborated on more recently.... a short film called "Break."

I say collaborated, because Diogo is not her co-star in "Break."  He is actually her director.  In fact, Diogo not only directed "Break," he also wrote it.  According to a tweet he posted in 2011, that's when Diogo began working on "Break," and it was his first time stepping behind the camera.  

Along with Lúcia Moniz, "Break" stars Diogo's good friend Rui Unas (who also co-starred with Diogo in the 2010 Spanish film, Miami Blue.)

Though "Break" has not debuted in its entirety yet, here's a trailer/teaser for this short film written and directed by Diogo:

I have to say, as a lover of film, to me, Diogo is an impressive filmmaker.  He's really good at using imagery (and music/sounds) to create and tell a story.  I know, you all want to see him in front of the camera, but there's no reason he can't be a hyphenate, aka writer/director/actor and do both.  :) 

Not sure what the status is of "Break" in terms of completion or when/where it will air in full, but I will let you know if that changes.

Oh and if want to see just how good of friends Diogo and Rui Unas clearly must be, check out this hilarious (even without translation) clip of Rui being interviewed as Diogo as Jesus that aired recently on a comedy show on Portuguese TV:

"Way back Wednesday" -- Diogo in Louis Vuitton from 2009

Well, today's not really a "clip" of the day, more like "photos of the day," but I figured that would be okay with you guys.  :)

So let's make today "Way back Wednesday," and go all the "way back" to 2009, hee.....

When Diogo was featured in GQ Portugal magazine for an editorial shoot wearing Louis Vuitton, that took place in the south of France, in Nice.  

I know Diogo has said he modeled briefly when he was younger, and I think that is evident in these pictures.  For me, they are so "different" from any images that I personally have ever seen of him, I had to share.  Thanks for stopping by!

"The Bible" on the Big Screen? (Clip(s) of the Day)

So first a bit of news.... according to The Hollywood Reporter, Mark Burnett says that he is prepping a theatrical release of a new cut of "The Bible."

Specifically, the article says:

"We're cutting a movie version right now, a three-hour version of Jesus and [we have] many, many offers from theaters globally," executive producer Mark Burnett told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday at NBCUniversal summer press day.  Burnett said the movie version will have a big focus on the Resurrection. He is eyeing a fall release."

Now, I obviously don't know for sure, but it seems to me this cut would have to include unaired footage that was not in the original "Bible" series.  And, as some of you may have noticed like I did, they definitely have unaired footage, because they accidentally used it on a couple of their "previously on" recap intros at the beginning of the episode, even though it was never actually previously on the show, hee.  So we'll see what happens, but it would be cool to see "The Bible" on the big screen for sure.  

In honor of this news, today's Clip of the Day is of Diogo (and Mark & Roma and our #FF @DarwinShaw) doing some "red carpet" press before "The Bible Experience" that took place in New York when "The Bible" was airing.  I chose this clip because it's lesser seen "raw" footage, and you get to see Diogo handle the press like a pro who's done American press for 10 years, AND be funny, even when he's clearly cold.  :)    (Also fast forward to near the end to see how un-Peter like Darwin looks "in real life," hee!)
