Before "Revenge," there was "Vingança"

As we not-so patiently wait for Diogo's episode of "Revenge" on September 29th, I thought we could continue our look back at his previous "revenge" series, "Vingança."  In this 2007 series that was inspired by the classic novel "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas, Diogo played "Santiago Medina."

Our dear friend Lou da Gama was kind enough to write an awesome, detailed synopsis for us of "Vingança," so that we might know more of Santiago's saga in the epic series....

What you can get for 250 Euros...

So in light of the recent, awesome news that Diogo will be guest starring on the season premiere of ABC's hit drama "Revenge," I thought we could take a look back at the last time Diogo appeared on a series seeking revenge.  Of course, I am referring to SIC TV's 2007 series "Vingança" where Diogo played "Santiago."

Specifically, today's "Clip of the Day" comes from a behind the scenes interview Diogo did to try to talk about his character, Santiago, but as you will see, the reporter had other plans.  :)  Our dear friend Lou da Gama was kind enough to translate this fun interview for us, found right below the video.

Diogo on "Malucos do Riso" (2007)

Recent posts/clips of Diogo's past work, like the interview/"skit" with Nilton and the play he did, "Acredita, Estou Possuído” have had many of us commenting on how good Diogo is at comedy.  Sure, we all know from "The Bible" and the SIC novels we have seen clips of that Diogo is an extremely talented dramatic actor.  But I know I personally was equally impressed by his knack for comedic timing and physical comedy after seeing him in things like "VIP Manicure," and I was curious to see more of this "side" of Diogo's talent.

To that end, today's Clip of the Day comes from Diogo's appearance on "Malucos do Riso" ("Crazy Laugh(ter)") in 2007.  "Malucos do Riso" is the longest running comedy series on SIC, where it began airing in 1995.  According to Wikipedia (via Google translate,) "Malucos do Riso" is "a show of popular anecdotes concerning traditional characters and stereotypes -- blondes, the grocery store, and many others. Laughter, jokes and willingness for everyone!"  So to me, it sounds like "Malucos do Riso" is what we in the US call a "sketch comedy series," along the lines of "Mad TV" or "Saturday Night Live."

In this clip of Diogo on "Malucos do Riso" from 2007, you can see him as several characters -- all very different.  From an obedient young man going to ask his boss for permission to marry his daughter, to a "playboy" talking to his friend about girls, to a doctor, to a straight-A student in elementary school.

"Throwback Thursday!" By Guest Blog Contributor, @Celena229

(Note from Sara: Today's first of two "Throwback Thursday" posts comes from our friend and guest blog contributor Celena, aka @Celena229, so please show her some love over on Twitter or in the comments section here.  Thanks, Sara)

Hi, fellow Diogo fan friends! I am Celena, (aka @Celena229), guest contributor to the blog.  I am excited to share my first "Throwback Thursday" post with you.  I think it's safe to say that we all agree what a talented actor Diogo is... and after much research that talent is evident in his many roles before his portrayal of Jesus in "The Bible."

Today's "Throwback Thursday" is from 2007 -- a movie called "The Italian Writer" (“A Escritora Italiana.”) Diogo plays "Joseph," a tormented American seminarian who is a member of Opus Dei. In the future, Joseph enters a bookstore in search of an Italian writer. As he searches for the name, he recounts the story of a woman he met 30 years ago. While in Lisbon, Portugal Joseph meets Giulia, an Italian writer. The two are immediately attracted to one another. Giulia is in Lisbon on a mission -- to find a woman who her father had a relationship with many years ago. Joseph is intrigued by her story and proposes that he and Giulia make the most of their 12-hour train delays (due to the Pope’s visit to Portugal) to try and find the woman. Lucia Moniz, who plays Giulia, also starred in “Vingança” with Diogo.

"Throwback Thursday" Take 2! By Guest Blog Contributor, @Jodiedebb

(Note from Sara: Today's second "Throwback Thursday" comes from returning guest blog contributor Jodie, aka @jodiedebb, so please show her some love over on Twitter or in the comments section here.  Thanks, Sara)

Hi, Jodie (aka @jodiedebb) here again!  It’s time for another Throwback Thursday, and oh, my dear DiogoFanFriends –- my eyes have been opened to this wonderful show called "Vingança." (Which means Revenge in English!)  This very dramatic story was broadcast on SIC TV in Portugal in 2007.

I won’t go into the whole back story –- because it’s long and the translation is a little complicated, but the general gist is that "Santiago" (played by Diogo) is in love with Laura. Due to some betrayal (this is where it gets fuzzy for me), Santiago ends up in jail in Morocco (ironic?), but everybody at home, including Laura thinks he is dead. Laura ends up marrying Santiago’s best friend, Santiago comes back to find her, which brings us to this scene, where she is in the hospital (I’m not really sure why).
