Son of God: The Mission

The cable network UP (Uplifting Entertainment) aired a special this morning called "Son of God: The Mission."  This half-hour program features a behind the scenes look at the film, with commentary by those involved with "Son of God," including Diogo.  You can see this amazing special below, posted as 4 separate videos to avoid commercials.

Behind the Scenes with Diogo (from "Queridas Manhãs")

Diogo gave João Paulo Rodrigues from SIC's "Queridas Manhãs" a look behind the scenes of "Sol de Inverno."  Dina was once again awesome enough to translate this funny segment for us, which can be found below each video.  Obrigada Dina!

(João Paulo Rodrigues, (JPR) co-host of the morning show "Queridas Manhãs," goes behind the scenes of "Sol de Inverno.")
JPR: Today we came to the SP studios to spend the day with Diogo Morgado. He must be almost here. We'll wait.
(Diogo pulls up in his Smart Car.
JPR: Oh, oh, that's enough. Come on.
(Diogo gets out of the car and gives him his backpack.)
DM: Will you hold this?
JPR: Yes, give it to me.
DM: (to camera) This is my new assistant.
DM: (to JPR) Why did you come to bother me today?
JPR: I want to see what you usually do here during the day. What you eat, what you drink. I want to understand how a "technical (for TV/on-screen) kiss" works.
DM: For? For?
JPR: For our morning program "Queridas Manhãs."
(meanwhile Angelo Rodrigues ("Simão" on Sol), arrives in his sports car.)
DM: Some arrive by Smart Car, others come by....
AR: I make a tenth of what he earns, but spent all my money on it.
DM: I spend on things as I should.
JPR: (to Angelo) But, hey, I bet you bought the car second hand and that the soft top does not open...
DM: It's like we're at the dentist, right? There is that thing that makes noise inside the mouth, to maintain hygiene, right? I share the same principle to the so-called "technical kiss." So no germs. It has to be dry and practiced at home to run smoothly.
(Diogo is having lunch.)
JPR: But for those scenes where you are at the table, eating lunch or dinner, do you really eat?
DM: (says no) There is a little tube ...
JPR: (whining) Oh, my God. This will have to be all cut.
(Now they are in the makeup room.)
DM: Now, basically, you're saying goodbye to this friendly dude (Diogo), who talks with you as the good guy, and then becomes the irritable (Eduardo) one. Ready?
JPR: Ready. Ladies and gentlemen, prepare for the transformation of the great artist that will put ...
(Diogo drops the contact lens.)
JPR: Look, it escaped ... Are you nervous? I would be.
DM: A little bit. I've never been watched when I'm doing this.
JPR: You want us to turn our backs?
DM: Please....
JPR: (to the camera) Turn around.
....
DM: (to the camera) Who is this gentleman?
....
JPR: And if you were working?
DM: Oh, okay, I'm going.
(Diogo walks back and forth.)
DM: My coat? Where is my coat?
JPR: (shouting) The coat for Eduardo.
DM: (laughs) I look like a chicken.
(The coat appears.)
JPR: Ah, now, yes, doctor.
(Both speak in whispers.)
DM: You do not know because you're new at this. This here is called "Sol de Inverno". It is a great series on SIC.
("Eduardo" and "Rita" kissing each other for a scene for "Sol de Inverno.")
JPR: A while ago you told me you were not going to do "technical kisses." None. But there were a few little kisses with Rita ...
DM: This is where improvisation comes in.
JPR: Ah ... kissing Rita was not in the script?
DM: No.
JPR: And you kiss because you felt like it.
DM: Yes, because I felt like it.
JPR: It was an impulse ... you felt like it.
DM: That's it.
JPR: You think she explained it to me, or not?
DM: I think so.
JPR: Let's talk to her?
DM: Let's go.
Sandra ("Rita" in the series): That scene called for it. Says there that you didn't like it.
JPR: I actually liked it. I have not seen it, but I heard. And there were 3 or 4 ...
DM: But just to hear it must have been ...
JPR: It was spectacular. It was a full kiss...
(And the two make "kissing" noises.)

Behind the Scenes with Diogo (part 2)

(They are looking at the production chart on the wall.)
DM: Here is our weekly work schedule. Here, on Monday, as the scenes are filmed, we strike them out. We had 2 dinners and 1 lunch. And my grandfather said "Bad is the mouth that does not take two lunches."
(heading to the locker room)
JPR: Better I stay out here.
DM: No, no, come on.
JPR: No, you go.
(In there is Angelo Rodrigues ("Simão") putting on his shoes.)
DM: Look, see? This is our private bathroom.
JPR: We never see serious actors changing clothes. Do you mind if we see?
DM: (laughs) He said serious actors.
(laughts)
JPR: (to Maria João Luís ("Laura") on the series) He is a good son?
MJL: He's a good boy.
JPR: She's not your mother?
DM: Yes, she is. She's more stepmother than a mother.
MJL: I'm referring to Diogo. Diogo is (a good guy).
JPR: Ah ... but I was talking about "Eduardo."
DM: She says that because our personal relationship is different.
(Diogo hugs her and pretends to kiss her passionately.)
JPR: Maybe we should not see this.
.....
DM: Let's be honest.
JPR: Tell me.
DM: You just came to SIC because of the girls, right?
JPR: Yes, yes, it was. Because of Júlia Pinheiro (the other host of "Queridas Manhãs.")
....
JPR: What do you do during breaks in filming?
DM: It depends on a lot of things. It depends much upon the scenes that follow. If it's a more complicated scene, you might want to work on it and study it, especially in scenes where there's a discussion, for example, where words should be well articulated and fluent to be as true as possible. If the scene is more laid back, in that case it can be conversations with colleagues, or a break for coffee, which is often necessary.
(A girl goes by them and JPR gets distracted, which causes  Diogo to laugh and say--)
DM: Now I understand why you came to SIC.
....
(entering a door)
DM: Calm, calm, calm, João. Most of the time we end at night. So today, was not bad.
JPR: So what now? Take out the [contact] lenses and goodnight?
DM: Yeah, basically that's it. The last thing I do is remove the lens.
JPR: But you use these again, or they go in the trash?
DM: No, I'm pretty resourceful. These now go here in the box and are stored until the next time.

Diogo's co-workers and colleagues are so lucky, because he sure seems to make work fun!  :)

Behind the Scenes of "Sol de Inverno" with Diogo on "Boa Tarde"

Diogo took viewers on a tour behind the scenes of "Sol de Inverno" on the SIC talk show, "Boa Tarde."  Dina graciously translated this fun and cute segment for us, which can be found right below the video.

Backstage - Sol de Inverno - with Diogo Morgado by diogofanfriends

DM: (getting out of the car) Well good morning, good morning or good afternoon. This is because it’s a good day here in Óbidos. It's ... what time is it? Let me see ... It's 10am. It is not bad, but to get to Óbidos, have to wake up quite early. I woke up at 6:30 am. Oh… it is. There, at "Boa Tarde," you already had lunch, all is quiet, but here we're still starting the day now. Spend this day backstage at "Sol de Inverno" with me, okay? This is what we will do. So okay, come now.
DM: (next to the coffee machine) Go to the coffee ... Good day ...
DM: (as if he was selling it at the market) Look, a cup of coffee... Who wants a cup of coffee?... No coffee, but we have glasses...
DM: (drinking coffee) Here are the wardrobe ladies (they are hiding from the camera.) Look at them, you see?
(With Rui Unas ("Carlos") on the series.)
DM: Rui, do you want to talk to people about our latest single?
RU: Do you want to? Want to talk about it?
DM: I would speak a little ...
RU: So speak ...
DM: So this is how....
(and their  "Bo Tem Mel" video plays.)
RU: Although ... sometimes ...
DM: No, do not go there, do not go there ...
RU: So…
DM: No, it is not worth it because they do not need to know.
(more of  "Bo Tem Mel" plays.)
DM: But wasn't it cool?
RU: It was ...
DM: (to the camera) But prepare yourselves because there may be more (he laughs.)
(He closes the car door as colleagues run away from him and the camera.)
DM: I was being threatened by members of the crew, saying "Diogo, Diogo, I was born to be behind the camera, not in front of the cameras. Don't ever do that to me." Sorry wardrobe ladies.
(Now in the make-up trailer.)
DM: The last time I was here, on location, I was such a fuss, my colleagues, especially these two (the make-up people), turned. I think it was more "Eduardo" than Diogo.
(Scene with Eduardo and Andreia in the room plays.)
DM: So look, I'm sorry. Jacinta, the makeup artist, she is disguising the fact that I have been very sick and filming at the same time ... Look, you know what she's doing right now? Hiding my dark circles.
(Inês Castelo Branco ("Teresa") arrives.)
DM: And then we have Inês Castelo Branco, who does not need much make-up to look pretty.
(Scene from “Sol de Inverno” where Andreia tells the family that Eduardo is compatible with his sister, but hid it plays.)
DM: A kidney is not something you give to just anyone (laughs.) What horror ... You see? I'm not like that, okay?
ICB: Diogo is animated. It is he who brings good energy to the scene. He is also a person full of interests. He is always talking about movies, experiences, music ...
DM: (interrupting) She's saying I'm boring ...
ICB: I’m not.
DM: Shut up.
ICB: He is very cool.
(with box of contact lenses in his hands)
DM: Herein lays the magic of "Eduardo."
ICB: It is with these that he stays one of us. He was the only family member with dark eyes, so they decided to put him in contact lenses.
DM: I just said "no way I'm going to be the only member in this family who does not have lighter eyes, so to speak." So what did I do? I bought these (and he shows the box with the contact lens.
(with Maria João Luis ("Laura") and Rui Unas, getting ready to shoot a scene.)
MJL: Do you know who loves you?
DM: No one?
(He laughs.)
(Now talking to the director)
DM: I bring the small suitcase and he brings the big one.
(A scene from “Sol de Inverno” with Laura plays.  )
DM: When people on the street tell me "You're so bad ... so bad ... but also… with a mother like that ..." so it's fun because people feel irritated with the character of "Eduardo" but also excuse him due to circumstances in which he lives.
(“Sol de Inverno” scene with Laura, at the hospital when Eduardo was late for the kidney transplant, plays.)
DM: At the end of it all, "Eduardo" is not the villain, okay? Not a villain. He is someone not really capable, mindless, and perhaps abnormal. But that does not make him a villain. He is not a villain.
(at the end)
DM: Well, this is it, dear Conceição and dear viewers. Thank you for spending this day with me, for accompanying me behind the scenes of "Sol de Inverno." I hope you all continue to follow the series, and that we will find ourselves there, [at the Boa Tarde studio] okay?  Thank you, a kiss, until next time.

Behind the Scenes of "Sol de Inverno" on "Boa Tarde"

Angelo Rodrigues, who plays "Simão" on"Sol de Inverno," was giving "Boa Tarde" a look behind the scenes of the series when his interview was unexpectedly "interrupted."  Not so great for Angelo perhaps, but kinda great for us, hee.  Check out this short but fun video and translation of Diogo's parts provided below, once again thanks to our incredible friend, Dina.

(Angelo is in the trailer where the cast get their hair and makeup done, and introduces Brazilian actress Ursula Corona, who will be playing a character that will come to have an affair with “Eduardo." Meanwhile, waiting outside are "Sol de Inverno" co-stars Diogo, Rui Neto ("Nuno") and little Francisco Monteiro ("Vasco.")  As usual it is a fun and playful atmosphere.)
Diogo: (with a Brazilian accent) Our mother the sky...
(And then at the door of the makeup trailer.)
Diogo: This is when it is noted that an "Interviewjacking" is happening. "Interviewjacking" is when the person on the other side says "Ah! Have you finished the interview with Diogo? "And they do not realize that the interview is not with Diogo, it is with Angelo Rodrigues. This is called "interviewjacking."  There is "carjacking" “bag-jacking,” and then there's "interviewjacking" which is sabotaging the interview of another.
(The assistant director talks.)
Angelo: These here are the "conditions" that we have in the makeup/wardrobe trailer, so is this space that we have, basically.
Diogo: (to Rui/"Nuno") We are part of the "conditions"? That is what he is saying, that we are part of the "conditions"?
Angelo: That's it. And here is their "happy face."
(And Diogo and Rui put on their best smiles for the camera.)

Some Behind the Scenes footage of "Sol de Inverno"

Each night this week, SIC's "Jornal da Noite" (Nightly News) is doing a feature on the behind the scenes production of "Sol de Inverno" in a series they are calling "Tá a Gravar" ("Is Recording.")  Tonight's segment, "Não faz sentido" ("It makes no sense") was about the use of sound in the recording of the show, and it featured some very brief, but fun behind the scenes video of Diogo shooting the upcoming series.

The "Making of" Diogo's TMN Commercials

TMN posted a behind the scenes/"making of" video about the awesome commercials in their "TMN Verão. Bar Aberto Internet" series, which feature Diogo and friends at the beach.  And our friend Liliana was kind enough to translate it for us, found beneath the video!

(video courtesy of tmn/YouTube)

Diogo: I was the owner of two bars, the first one when I was 22 years old, like a friends thing.
(…)
For this specific campaign I think I was able to translate that very well.  There are small details that even if people don't know the story of these friends, there are genuine things about them. Ummm and that is the type of thing that is not typical in advertising. It’s like story telling, not only to sell the product, but to associate it with a feeling.
(…)
The apps go through the undeniable social media ones like Instagram, Twitter or Facebook…
(…)
I am living in a unique generation, one which is able to communicate with the those who love their work directly, without any middlemen, that is absolutely incredible!
(…)
With this group of films done in such a short period of time, I felt such effectiveness from the producers and all involved. We were all well prepared for what we were going to do.
[Interviewer: What things about this filming will you want to tell everyone?]
Diogo: Look… I never thought I could amuse myself so much while shooting an ad! (Obrigada to Liliana for another great translation!)
_______

TMN also posted another short commercial in the series with Diogo and friends today!  This one is called "A Caldeirada" ("A Stew") and you can see it below.  (I LOVE this campaign and these ads, and so want to pitch them as a series/film here in the States, hee!)

(video courtesy of tmn/YouTube)

You can read more about this awesome TMN summer campaign/series here, and see the previous TMN commercials, including the first one (aka "Broadband"), the extended version (aka "This summer, come on"), and the 2nd one, aka "The Workaholic," by clicking on their respective links.

Diogo to appear in new ad campaign in Portugal

TMN, a Portuguese mobile phone company, announced this week that Diogo will be the "face" of their upcoming ad campaign.  The campaign is expected to include a commercial and print ads, launching sometime this weekend or week.

I will post the video and images of the ads as soon as I get them.  But, and I could be wrong, but I think this may have been what Diogo was filming when was tweeting and sharing pictures of filming last weekend, including this picture he shared, saying: "Shooting at the beach. Costa Vicentina Rules!!!"

We shall see.... In the meantime, take a look at this video about another ad campaign Diogo participated in back in 2010 for "Boa Estética" clinics. (A translation, thanks to the ever amazing Lou da Gama, is below the video.)

Making of "Dreambooks" Video with Diogo!

Okay sorry for a 2nd post today so soon, but an awesome fan, Eva Lin, posted this great video of Diogo on my Diogofanfriends Facebook page, and I had to share.

It's behind the scenes of Diogo working with "Dreambooks" photo books that he referenced in the interview from today's "Clip of the Day."  This video is from 2010, so it was before the interview on "Boa Tarde" obviously, but it's a fun little video, so I wanted you all to see it.  Thanks Eva Lin!

Behind the Scenes of "A Armadilha" AND the Full Episode!

Many of Diogo's awesome Portuguese fans have tweeted or e-mailed me about an episode of a TV miniseries Diogo did in 2011, called "Tempo Final" - A Armadilha."  Specifically, Diogo played "Pedro" in the final episode of the miniseries, whose title loosely translates to "End Time: The Trap."

And so today's "Clip(s) of the Day" actually comes from one such incredible fan who is originally from Portugal, Lou da Gama.  Lou sent me a link to a "behind the scenes" video of the making of "A Armadilha" that has ENGLISH subtitles.  :)

(FYI, that "behind the scenes" clip comes courtesy of Yuri Alves on YouTube.  Yuri, incidentally, is the director of "A Armadilha.")

Lou da Gama also sent me a link to the entire episode of "Tempo Final - A Armadilha."  The episode, unfortunately, does not have subtitles,  and you may have to watch it on YouTube instead of here on the site.  But make sure to see below the clip for Lou's EXCELLENT synopsis of the episode.  Oh and see if you recognize Diogo's male co-star.  :)

(clip courtesy of TempoFinalfan/YouTube)

Lou da Gama's synopsis of "A Armadilha":

"Pedro (Diogo) and Rodrigo, two successful entrepreneurs and friends, who have just become millionaires through a corrupt business deal, keep their millions in a safe box in Rodrigo’s office. Though they are supposedly friends, the two men decide to memorize each only half of the 8 digits code of the safe box. That way, one will not be able to steal from the other. Before leaving, Pedro, an audacious and flirty man, convinces his shy friend, Rodrigo, to seduce his secretary, even though Rodrigo is married.

In the building’s garage, Pedro realizes that his car is not working, and though, there is nobody left in the building apart from him, Rodrigo, the secretary and the security guard, a seductive woman strangely parks her car besides him. Pedro and the woman engage in a game of seduction while Rodrigo tries to seduce his secretary.

But, both men end up realizing that nothing is what it seems, and they are victims of a trap set up by the two women, which ends in a deadly game. The secretary is able to get the 4 digits from Rodrigo and notes them on a piece of paper. However, Pedro is very defiant, even with a gun pointed at his head. He suspects Rodrigo is involved in the scam and he will not disclose his 4 digits. He tells the woman in the car that he will only reveal the digits after looking at Rodrigo’s face to be sure Rodrigo is not involved.

Back in the office, Pedro continues to refuse to tell the 4 digits, even when the women tell him that if he doesn't they will kill Rodrigo.

In the end, Pedro, not only manages to get everybody involved killed but also Rodrigo’s 4 digits (which he finds on the piece of paper in the secretary's hand), and thus… all the money just for himself."
__________

A HUGE thank you to Lou da Gama for sending me these links and for writing such a great synopsis for us.  So appreciated.

And I also just want to say a big thank you to all of Diogo's Portuguese fans who have been so supportive of the blog, and have been SO kind to me and all of Diogo's "new" fans.  You all have been amazingly helpful and embracing, and I sincerely just think you are all incredible.  Obrigada.
