Diogo's video on "5 Para a Meia-Noite"

On Tuesday night, Rui Unas made his debut as one of the hosts of RTP's late night talk show, "5 Para a Meia-Noite."  Diogo sent Rui a video message to offer his good friend "encouragement" on his big night.  Our own good friend Dina, was once again kind enough to translate Diogo's message to Rui for us, which can be found right below the video.

Diogo on Afterbuzz TV's "Spotlight On"

Last night, Diogo was a guest on AfterBuzz TV's LIVE online series "Spotlight On" where he was interviewed by the fabulous Alison Dean, whom you may recognize as one of the awesome co-hosts from the "The Messengers" aftershow.

Now we all know Diogo is an incredible guest and always gives a great interview, but trust me, this one is BEYOND AMAZING. Diogo is at his absolute charming best, hahaha. But don't just take my word, watch the full interview below for yourself, and you'll see exactly what I mean.

Meet "The Man"

The CW has released the above promotional images of Diogo as "The Man" in the upcoming series, "The Messengers."  How awesome are these pictures?  CANNOT wait to see this series and really meet "The Man."

Speaking of seeing the series, in case you haven't heard, "The Messengers" will now premiere on Friday, APRIL 17TH, on the CW, at 9pm ET/8pm Central.  Yes, having to wait another week to see the show is not fun, but to help us get through the wait, the CW also released a new "First Look" trailer for the series, a long with a new promo for the show they are also now running on TV during other CW shows!  But you can see both videos below. :)

Diogo on the Movieguide Awards

 Diogo recently attended Movieguide's 23rd Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala, where he took home their Grace Award in Movies for his incredible portrayal of "Jesus" in "Son of God."  The Movieguide Awards aired on the Reelz Channel tonight, and you can see Diogo humbly accept his award in the video below.

Like Pat Boone said, "who else could it be?" :)  HUGE congratulations to Diogo on this much deserved award.  We are so very proud of you!

RECAP: "The Messengers" at the CW TCA

Yesterday, the CW Network had their day at the annual Winter TCA (Television Critics Association) Press Tour.  Diogo, along with his Castmates and Executive Producers took to the stage for "The Messengers" panel, to officially "introduce" their upcoming series to the media.  And, the CW also FINALLY announced the premiere date and timeslot for "The Messengers": Friday, April 10th at 9pm ET/8pm CT. 

And, we also got our first trailer for the series, and it is AMAZING, see for yourself if you haven't already:

As you may already know, Diogo plays "The Man" in "The Messengers." At the TCA panel, Diogo said what he loved most about "The Messengers" was that "it's about the choices we make and how they impact our lives and all those around us."  Also at the TCA panel, it was revealed that "The Man" is the "devil on earth," who has an "interesting, dark agenda" that is "surprising."  When asked about playing "The Man" after having played "Jesus," Diogo said, "The life of an actor is, now I'm playing the opposite of that." Now, I personally have to say this... in my opinion, if there is anyone who can handle portraying such extremely opposite roles equally effectively and brilliantly, it is Diogo Morgado.  And I really cannot wait to see his work on "The Messengers." So let the countdown to Friday, April 10th begin.  :)

The Making of Diogo's Dreambooks 2014/2015 Campaign

There are now a couple of posters and a trailer for Diogo's upcoming comedy film, "Virados do Avesso," which will be opening in theaters in Portugal on Thursday, November 27th.

"Virados do Avesso" ("Turned Inside Out") is a comedy in which Diogo's character, a gay man, wakes up one morning with no memory of his orientation OR his partner, who he has been with for 5 years.  Hilarity ensues as he begins to act as a single, straight bachelor who loves to party, much to the dismay of his very confused partner (played by Jorge Corrula.)  Below is the trailer for "Virados do Avesso," which has a couple of seconds that make it not perfectly suitable for work, but it needs no translation to make you laugh.  :)

Make sure to follow the "Virados do Avesso" Official Facebook Page for all the latest updates on the film, which again hits theaters in Portugal on November 27th.  No word yet if we will get a chance to see the film here in the U.S., but fingers crossed! :)

Diogo on "The Enrique Santos Show"

While in Miami to promote the newly released "Son of God" DVD and Blu-Ray, Diogo stopped by the radio program, "The Enrique Santos Show."  Luckily for us, they filmed it too.  :)  Here's the video of this very, very fun interview, now followed by a translation of it, thanks again to wonderful Dina!

Enrique Santos (ES): Okay, he is known from films and television series. In Brazil, in Portugal, and in various parts of the world. But he is now internationally known as... 

Luisa Fernanda (LF): JESUS!!!!

ES: Or as Hot Jesus, which was very controversial at first. He's actor Diogo Morgado. Let's welcome him. He is with us. 

DM: Thank you. Thank you very much. It is a pleasure to be here with you. 

ES: How're you doing, brother? Thank you for your presence. This week it was released on Blu Ray and DVD, the film "Son of God." Here it is. I went buy it on Tuesday. I support.

LF: So sweet...

ES: Well, but some people say you are too cute to interpret Jesus. 

DM: No, no, do not know what you're talking about. Not a good idea. 

ES: You’re a very handsome guy.

DM: Thank you.

ES: You are very attractive. 

DM: I don't know that. My mom used to say that, you know? My mom tells me that, but I don't believe it. 

ES: Let's go point by point. What did your mother think when you said to her "Mom, I am going to play the role of Jesus Christ in a movie?" 

DM: Yes, when I told her, she couldn't believe it. I also didn't believe it. The truth is that the best compliment I received was from my mom. I wasn't in Portugal when my mom saw the movie, and I was worried because there are many violent scenes. So I called her and asked her if everything was okay, if she had seen and what she thought. She replied "Look Diogo, I just see you there for about 5 minutes. After that I didn't see you anymore. Just saw Jesus." For me that was the best compliment I have received throughout this journey that has been the Son of God.

ES: Because you gave yourself totally. How much preparation? How much did you actually do to prepared for this role? Because it's a big deal. 

DM: It is, it is. It's a big deal. It's hard ... wow, you changed from Spanish to English... you messed with my head.... 

LF: We've to say that although he's Portuguese, he speaks very good Spanish... 

ES: Yeah, he speaks Spanish perfectly... 

DM: No, no, I speak "Portunhol." This is Portunhol (Portuguese+Español.)

LF: But we appreciate it. When a person like you makes an effort to speak Spanish, we are very grateful.  

LF: Parlez vou français? (You speak French?)

DM: No, no, no, even worse. Then I’m done. Then I’m done.

LF: Portuguese then? 

DM: Portuguese no, you wouldn't understand. 

DM: Three. 

LF: Portuguese, Spanish and English.

ES: So let's talk in Spanish. 

DM: Yes, let's try. Let's try. 

DM: Portunhol. Portuguese and Spanish is Portunhol.

ES: Let's speak in Portunhol to not confuse you. 

DM: But you were asking me... 

ES: The preparation for this. 

DM: Tremendous. The truth is that when I knew, my first reaction was to read everything, study everything I could, see everything that was about the figure of Jesus. But the truth is that there was a time in Jerusalem, I saw along the Wailing Wall a child, 10 years old, with his father.  They were praying. Two or three hours later when I was leaving, I saw that they were still there, exactly in the same position. For me that was the moment I realized the importance of what was going to do, that it would have a tremendous impact especially in the life of this child. Because his father has other references. But for this child, Jesus would be the visual part of their faith and of their learning. I am also a father. I have a 4 year old son. So for me, this was very important. There is no book, there is no movie, nothing can help you. It must be something terribly authentic and completely moves you to what you're showing, which is the unconditional love of Jesus. I felt like a vessel for something greater than myself. It has probably been the greatest experience of my life. 

ES: Wow I imagine.  

DM: Wow I imagine. 

ES: It was more than work. 

DM: Absolutely. Without a doubt. A personal, spiritual journey ... 

ES: That changed your life. And it also changed, impacted the life of another person, too. I'll explain to you why. Not long ago I was fortunate to be able to also travel to the Holy Land. I was in Israel, I went to Palestine, to Jerusalem. And the weekend of Memorial Day, I thought about doing something. I stayed home all weekend and saw The Bible, all episodes, on Netflix... Itunes ... I think it was on Itunes. Well in one of the two I saw. 

LF: Sorry, but it should be clarified that this is the television series and then they made ​​the movie. 

ES: Exactly. That are 10 episodes. Well, I've seen them all, including the chapters that became the "Son of God."

DM: Well, "Son of God" is a more detailed, more personal and more emotional view, it's only the life of Jesus. "The Bible" is the whole Bible. Has the Old and New Testament. 

ES: What I also like is that explains it in a simple way, because many people do not like reading, and the location where it was filmed, and the fact that has you…

DM: It gives a visual perspective of what you believe, what you feel. 

ES: Exactly. 

DM: It was tremendous. You touched on a subject that is very important. Nowadays we live in a very visual world. So there are a lot of young people and children who have heard of Jesus, know who he is, but do not have an emotional relationship with him. That was the most important thing to us. "Son of God" is not a political film. It does not take one side. It does not cling only to the words. It tries, essentially, to explain the emotional side. You can see the crucifixion. Obviously it has a visual component. But what hurts you most is the emotional pain, because you are invested in this figure of Jesus. You have a relationship. Feels like you're seeing your best friend, your father or your mother be sacrificed. That was the goal. A personal, emotional journey and not just graphic. 

ES: And that is achieved, too, through a great actor. Critics also comment. It says  here (reads on computer) "actor Diogo Morgado 'Hot Jesus' criticized for being too sexy to play Son of God." How do you feel, what is your opinion when they say you're too sexy to play Jesus Christ? 

DM: It was a surprise... 

LF: I’m too sexy for Jesus… 

(laughs)

DM: This is new. I never heard this. I’m too sexy to play Jesus? (laughs) It’s too much… You kill me, you kill me. Awesome, awesome.  I do not know how to answer that. It was a big surprise, because as I said before, this was not work for me. It was a tremendous journey, emotional and personal. Very, very deep. Having a lot of people talking about what I did, and how they felt touched by my work, I am very happy and very honored. But then people talk about Hot Jesus, and I'm speechless, because it was a big surprise. But let me tell you something, it was like you were saying just now, that Jesus spoke in parables, trying to reach the greatest number of people. Right? Why not? This is a tool of instruction for many people. Motivation for many people. There are many atheists who say "I do not believe in anything special but there is something in this movie ..." 

LF: Some message was received. 

DM: Exactly. That's the best compliment I can have. Hot Jesus, obviously it's funny. I accept it as a compliment but we have to see it as a joke. 

ES: The most important thing is that the film reached its goal and you did a spectacular job. Do you like to sing? 

DM: Hmmm... I like to but don't know if I'm good at doing it.

DM: No way…

ES: Try "I'm too sexy for Jesus." 

DM: (laughs) No way… no way… Give me a classic.

(Diogo tries to sing a bit.)

ES: Now alone.

DM: No, alone no. I’m not gonna do that.

LF: And of course, we can't help asking you... about the World Cup? (Soccer championship coming up in Brazil.)

DM: Portugal… Portugal…

LF: You think so?

DM: Absolutely... Cristiano... Cristiano Ronaldo (incredible Portuguese soccer player)... Super Cristiano. Absolutely. 

ES: (to Luísa) Don't tempt him. He can duplicate him (Cristiano). He can return to his role of Jesus, back to Jesus again, and create a series of Cristiano Ronaldos.

DM: Yeah... Eleven Cristianos ... 11 ... the best team in the world. 

Host: Well, let's see. I say that Brazil will win. I'm Mexican, imagine... 

DM: Hummm… I don’t know…

Diogo's interview on TV Record's "Giro"

Diogo was recently interviewed on TV Record's show, "Giro."  First up is the promo he did for the interview, followed by the actual interview itself.  Dina was kind enough to translate the promo and this great interview for us, which can be found right below each video.

Diogo: Hello everyone, I'm Diogo Morgado and I will be the next guest on the program, GIRO, here, at TV Record.  Let's talk, among other things, about "The Bible," which has been a great success worldwide.  So do not miss it. Here, at TV Record. A kiss.

HOST: Diogo, your career has gone beyond borders. But for those who have not had the opportunity to follow it, explain to me how it all started in this artistic medium.

Diogo/DM: Well, it all started ... is yet to begin. I do not like to use the word "career" for this very reason. This has been a snowball that has happened, and has been developing very naturally. But basically, it began at age 15 with an audition for a soap opera in 1997. After that role, I started doing theater, where I stayed for 2 years.  Then, later, I returned to television, and things went well, happening in a very natural way.  At the time there was a tele-film for one Portuguese channel (SIC), called “Amo-te Teresa,” which was very good at the time, because it served to grow, move and increasingly encourage the cinema in Portugal. Moreover, it was a very good initiative accepted by the Portuguese, which began precisely with this tele-film. It was a controversial story of love, which meant that from then on, people began to know me by my name, Diogo, and I felt a big difference with regard to people knowing who I was. 

HOST: And now let's talk about the American miniseries. How did it all come about? How do you get that role?

DM: It was a very natural way. Basically they were looking for someone, they had already done several auditions. The place where we shot was in Morocco. And one of the local producers there already knew me from another job, and suggested my name. The producers saw my resume, asked me to do an audition, I did an audition, and it led to a meeting that was supposed to be 20-30 minutes, and it was a conversation almost 2 and a half hours about the project they were going to do. Part of the meeting was a conversation about what I thought about a project like this. And I said, I was sincere, but never from the perspective of just to please with my answers. To be honest because I thought "never in my life this will happen, so..."

HOST: Did you feel you had double or quadrupule the responsibility for this role?

DM: Yes, after I knew I had gotten the role, things took on different proportions. On the one hand I was very happy, on the other hand I was very scared because the only way to do a project like this, in an effective and worthwhile way, is to bring something different, bring something new. I started by reading everything I could, and something else, I went to Jerusalem, drinking from the source as much as possible.

HOST: You seriously strived for this role.

DM: It was the least I could do. Never forgive myself, if I did a project like this, disregarding the history and people, and the audience it is intended for. Therefore, at a minimum, this work (preparation) would have to happen. And then comes the interpretation that I did with it, the facts and how it is that we were going to reach the people.

HOST: What impact has this miniseries "The Bible" had on your life?

DM: In my life, it essentially has had an impact. The most profound impact is the personal one, is it not?

HOST: You were a believer?

DM: I've always been a very private person. Same in this respect, I'm a very closed person. I have my faith, but it's a very personal faith. And what this series made me realize and believe and change in me, naturally, was to realize that one person can make a difference in things that matter. There's the butterfly effect. There's the effect around what that person coneys, which can move in fact, a group of people.  And this group can change another, and another, and another.  And big changes start sometimes with a person. And I started to believe it. I started to believe more that my happiness depends entirely on doing for others. Does not depend on me. There is nothing I can do, for me, that will bring me happiness. I just can find it (happiness) when I look for in others. Sometimes I wake upset, bored, sad, thinking I have a problem, or whatever. And on those days I force myself to smile for other people. Do not feel like it, but I choose to do it. And I feel that the answer that comes across there, it relieves me. It is not only positive, like bringing happiness, but it also alleviates what I find to be less than well.  It's like a snowball, the more you give, the more you receive, and you realize that only this makes sense. It only makes sense if we live for others.

HOST: But professionally, you felt also an impact, great recognition, not only here (Portugal), but obviously worldwide.

DM: It's a series that is running all over the world, isn't it? We've been in several countries. Now, for example, we will premiere in England. Been in Brazil, Australia ... In Australia, it was big. In Brazil there was also a very strong response.

HOST: Yes, the miniseries is airing on TV Record.

DM: Exactly. And so in that aspect, professionally, there are currently many more people who know at least one part of my work, or at least know me as an actor, who did not know me before.

HOST: I know everyone else has said this: "Hot Jesus." It was Oprah who said that to you. And I want you to tell me how it was to meet this person we all idolize.

DM: It was fantastic. I knew her as a fan. And it is no coincidence she is one of the most influential people in the world. In fact, she achieves one thing that, I think, is extraordinary... that she is not only extraordinarily good at what she does, the way she interviews people, it is with precision. She knows how to create a television moment when she wants it, the way she wants it, but, at the same time, she has so much authenticity. She is very, very authentic.

AT THE END: Hello everyone, Diogo Morgado here. I just wanted to wish you a great 2014 full of good things, and anything less that happens be just a shadow, and that all your dreams come true. A big kiss.

Yesterday's "E-Especial"

Yesterday "Sol de Inverno" was featured on SIC's "E-Especial."  Specifically, they talked to Diogo's co-stars, Cláudia Vieira and Dânia Neto.  They play "Eduardo's" (Diogo's character in "Sol de Inverno") wife and mistress, respectively in the series.  Though Diogo is not interviewed in the segment, they did show some new footage of "Eduardo" in the clip, so I wanted to share it.  Awesome fan Dina was kind enough to send us the video and a translation of it, which you can find below the video, along with some screencaps.

Diogo on "Só Visto!"

Diogo was interviewed on yesterday's episode of the RTP entertainment magazine/news program, "Só Visto!" ("Just Seen!")  One of Diogo's awesome Portuguese fans was kind enough to send us this link and a loose translation of this quick but fun interview, which can be found below the video.

Host/Joana Teles (JT): Diogo, show me your arm, please. I wonder if you have pinch marks. Do not know if you do this often given the success that you have had out there.
Diogo: (laughs) Well ... you have to go to the theater. It's because... (makes fun noises and gestures, then mockingly) "Show me your arm there, show me your arm there, and BAAM ... you pinch yourself often from the success you're having?" No, no, it's alright (he shows his arm has no marks of pinches.)
JT: But this happened? Metaphorically?
Diogo:  Yes, yes.
JT:  Do you recognize yourself in the expression "Hot Jesus"? 
Diogo:  Not at all. What I tried to do had absolutely nothing to do with any kind of appearance, so it is something I appreciate, because I realize that it is well-intentioned, and is not derogatory or anything like that, but it's not something I review.
JT: What was it like to be sitting with and interviewed by Oprah?  She is an undeniable international figure.
Diogo: It was fantastic. She is a fantastic person. I was already a fan of Oprah. She is actually very genuine, very human, very simple, and someone with whom I identify very much.
JT: Were you nervous?
Diogo: Sure. As required by law. As it should be.
JT: Revenge, 3rd season.  We will have the opportunity to see you. You think that this may be the beginning of something more serious?
Diogo: I do not know. Since I started at 15 (years old), I've never had any kind of prediction of what will come. I was invited to do the show Revenge, I did the 1st episode. I have other commitments that will make me leave the series ["Sol de Inverno"] too, but then, I'll be back. There is a management of schedules, which is, one day at a time.

Diogo appeared in a summer ad campaign in Portugal for TMN, a wireless phone company.   With the slogan "there are things you'll want to tell everyone," the series of commercials called "TMN Verão. Bar Aberto Internet" ("TMN Summer. Internet Open Bar") features Diogo "as 'Diogo,' a nostalgic, modern bar owner of Malhão Beach Bar, who returns this summer to the beach and decides to invite his old friends, adults now, to return to the beach of their childhood and rebuild the bar that gave them so many summer memories.” ("Meios e Publicidade")

Diogo: I was the owner of two bars, the first one when I was 22 years old, like a friends thing.

For this specific campaign I think I was able to translate that very well.  There are small details that even if people don't know the story of these friends, there are genuine things about them. Ummm and that is the type of thing that is not typical in advertising. It’s like story telling, not only to sell the product, but to associate it with a feeling.

The apps go through the undeniable social media ones like Instagram, Twitter or Facebook…

I am living in a unique generation, one which is able to communicate with the those who love their work directly, without any middlemen, that is absolutely incredible!

With this group of films done in such a short period of time, I felt such effectiveness from the producers and all involved. We were all well prepared for what we were going to do. 

[Interviewer: What things about this filming will you want to tell everyone?]

Diogo: Look… I never thought I could amuse myself so much while shooting an ad! (Obrigada to Liliana for the translation!)

Diogo talks to Gold Derby about "The Bible"

A new video interview with Diogo was posted online today, in which Diogo talked to Matt Noble, editor of GoldDerby about The Bible and playing Jesus.  A huge thank you to awesome fan Keri Rose for sending the video our way!

What a great, "real" interview.  I really appreciate Diogo's personal take and insight on the character.  It was so reflected in his portrayal of Jesus, to me, and made all the difference, to me.  And yay!  Diogo's going to be at the Emmys!  Fingers crossed The Bible wins AND maybe we'll see Diogo on the Red Carpet!  :)  The Emmys will air live on CBS on Sunday, September 22nd, at 8PM ET/5PM PST.  

And another big thank you to fan Keri Rose for sending in this video!   Much appreciated! 

Oh! I also want to say a special hello to all the new fans/visitors to the blog from Australia who are just now seeing The Bible and Diogo's amazing work as Jesus!  Welcome, friends down under, we're so glad to have you!  :)

Before "Revenge," there was "Vingança"

As we not-so patiently wait for Diogo's episode of "Revenge" on September 29th, I thought we could continue our look back at his previous "revenge" series, "Vingança."  In this 2007 series that was inspired by the classic novel "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas, Diogo played "Santiago Medina."

Our dear friend Lou da Gama was kind enough to write an awesome, detailed synopsis for us of "Vingança," so that we might know more of Santiago's saga in the epic series....
