Diogo in Disney's "Aviões" ("Planes")

How cool is this?  Diogo will be the voice of one the characters in "Aviões," the Portuguese version of the upcoming Disney film, "Planes." Specifically, Diogo will be the voice of the character/plane, "Bulldog":

According to the "Planes" official cast descriptions, "Bulldog" (who will be voiced by John Cleese in the US version of the film) "has been racing longer than every other racer on the circuit. As the oldest and arguably wisest, he remembers a time before GPS, when real racers trusted their gyros and navigated by the stars. When it comes to racing, it boils down to two qualities, says Bulldog: good flying and sportsmanship. Period. While the competition secretly wonders if the aging plane is past his prime, he flies his way onto the leader board again and again, proving that this Bulldog has lost none of his bite."

Before "Revenge," there was "Vingança"

As we not-so patiently wait for Diogo's episode of "Revenge" on September 29th, I thought we could continue our look back at his previous "revenge" series, "Vingança."  In this 2007 series that was inspired by the classic novel "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas, Diogo played "Santiago Medina."

Our dear friend Lou da Gama was kind enough to write an awesome, detailed synopsis for us of "Vingança," so that we might know more of Santiago's saga in the epic series....

What you can get for 250 Euros...

So in light of the recent, awesome news that Diogo will be guest starring on the season premiere of ABC's hit drama "Revenge," I thought we could take a look back at the last time Diogo appeared on a series seeking revenge.  Of course, I am referring to SIC TV's 2007 series "Vingança" where Diogo played "Santiago."

Specifically, today's "Clip of the Day" comes from a behind the scenes interview Diogo did to try to talk about his character, Santiago, but as you will see, the reporter had other plans.  :)  Our dear friend Lou da Gama was kind enough to translate this fun interview for us, found right below the video.

Making of Diogo Morgado: GQ Portugal (UPDATED with new photo)

UPDATED ON 7/22/13:

A new photo from Diogo's photo shoot for his June "GQ Portgual" cover issue his recent "GQ Man of the Year" award has been released on the internet.  Taken by Dan Carabas, who photographed the entire shoot, this picture continues the theme of the photo shoot -- which is "before and after the party" -- but this photo was ultimately not used in the article. Website "GoSee" found and shared the unpublished photo:

Diogo to guest star on "Revenge's" season premiere!

Exciting news!  Diogo's going to be back on our TV screens here in the US!  Specifically, Diogo is set to guest star on the season premiere of the hit ABC drama, "Revenge."  According to TVLine.com, Diogo will play a "distinguished and handsome doctor by the name of Dr. Jorge Velez."  The episode will air on Sunday, September, 29th.  That's exactly one week after the Emmys, when hopefully "The Bible" will win the award for Outstanding Miniseries or Movie.  We could see Diogo on our TV's two Sundays in a row... just like old times.  :)

Speaking of old times, hee, you may have heard of a novela Diogo starred in back in 2007 called "Vingança" that was based on "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas.  Well, in English "vingança" means "revenge."

If you're not familiar with ABC's "Revenge," or want to catch up with old episodes before the season premiere, you can watch them here.  It's a great show, I'm a big fan actually.

Congratulations Diogo, and welcome back!

"The Bible" has been nominated for three Emmys!

No, Diogo was not nominated.  :(  But we all know he deserves an Emmy and more for his incredible portrayal of Jesus, regardless.  And I am sure Diogo is just as thrilled that "The Bible" was nominated for "Outstanding Miniseries or Movie."

A HUGE congratulations to Mark, Roma, Diogo, Darwin, and all the cast and crew for being recognized by the TV Academy for their amazing work.  "The Bible" received two other Emmy nominations today as well -- Outstanding Sound Editing and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Miniseries or Movie.  Again, congratulations to all.  We are all rooting for you to bring the Emmy home!

And look, I understand the disappointment in Diogo not being nominated.  But a nomination for "The Bible" for "Outstanding Miniseries or Movie" in a very tough category in a very competitive year DOES reaffirm what we have all known and said about him since we first saw his brilliant performance in the series, so this is still definitely a day to celebrate!

The 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on Sunday, September 22nd, and you can find the complete list of nominees in all categories here.

The "Making of" Diogo's TMN Commercials

TMN posted a behind the scenes/"making of" video about the awesome commercials in their "TMN Verão. Bar Aberto Internet" series, which feature Diogo and friends at the beach.  And our friend Liliana was kind enough to translate it for us, found beneath the video!

(video courtesy of tmn/YouTube)

Diogo: I was the owner of two bars, the first one when I was 22 years old, like a friends thing.
(…)
For this specific campaign I think I was able to translate that very well.  There are small details that even if people don't know the story of these friends, there are genuine things about them. Ummm and that is the type of thing that is not typical in advertising. It’s like story telling, not only to sell the product, but to associate it with a feeling.
(…)
The apps go through the undeniable social media ones like Instagram, Twitter or Facebook…
(…)
I am living in a unique generation, one which is able to communicate with the those who love their work directly, without any middlemen, that is absolutely incredible!
(…)
With this group of films done in such a short period of time, I felt such effectiveness from the producers and all involved. We were all well prepared for what we were going to do.
[Interviewer: What things about this filming will you want to tell everyone?]
Diogo: Look… I never thought I could amuse myself so much while shooting an ad! (Obrigada to Liliana for another great translation!)
_______

TMN also posted another short commercial in the series with Diogo and friends today!  This one is called "A Caldeirada" ("A Stew") and you can see it below.  (I LOVE this campaign and these ads, and so want to pitch them as a series/film here in the States, hee!)

(video courtesy of tmn/YouTube)

You can read more about this awesome TMN summer campaign/series here, and see the previous TMN commercials, including the first one (aka "Broadband"), the extended version (aka "This summer, come on"), and the 2nd one, aka "The Workaholic," by clicking on their respective links.

Diogo on "Querida Júlia" today

(screencaps from "Querida Júlia")

Diogo appeared on SIC's "Querida Júlia" today, and the wonderful Liliana again kindly translated the awesome interview for us, found right under the link to the video.  (You made need flash to watch this video.)

Emmy chat

As we anxiously await for the Emmy nominations to be announced on Thursday morning, and root for Diogo, Darwin, the series and all involved with "The Bible," I thought it might be neat to take a look back at when Diogo, along with his fellow cast and crew of "Laços de Sangue" ("Blood Ties"), won an International Emmy in 2011 for "Best Telenovela."

So, today's "Clip of the Day" comes from November 2011, when Diogo, his co-star Diana Chaves, and SIC network's general director Luís Marques appeared on SIC TV to discuss their very recent Emmy win.  Our ever amazing friend Lou da Gama translated Diogo's parts of the interview for us, which, (with time marks) can be found below the video.

Diogo's 2nd commercial for TMN is out and this one is called "The Workaholic."

Thanks to Sofia, a Diogo fan with a super keen eye for pointing something out in the commercial I didn't even notice.  Does the background of starfish and shells used at the end of the commercial look familiar to anyone:

Remember this tweet from Diogo about a week ago, where he said: "The beauty is in the small things" with this picture:

:)  Great catch Sofia!  Thanks for sharing!

Diogo is also featured in this week's "Lux" magazine, including some pictures from the filming of his TMN commercials.  (A translation as generously provided by Liliana can be found below its respective page of the article.)

On the 18th, Diogo Morgado will know if he is one of the nominees for the Emmy for Outstanding Leading Actor in a TV Miniseries. The handsome actor has his hands full. Besides commercials, he is shooting “Ambição,” the next series for SIC.
____________
Diogo Morgado shoots TMN’s summer campaign at the beach, his favorite spot to be on vacation with family.
____________
“Like any kid, my son loves the beach and the sea.”
____________
The actor has been pre-nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor for his performance in the TV miniseries “The Bible.”
He is the star of the moment, and one of the most coveted actors in Portugal. Diogo Morgado was at the Malhão do Alentejo Beach, shooting TMN commercials, in which he gives life to a young a beach bar owner, which he has already been in real life. “I also had a beach bar at Costa da Caparica, so, there is much here that I recognize perfectly. I am very attached to some places and memories. People, moments that were lived in some place at some time. The background is what defines us, what truly marks us,” says Diogo Morgado.
Coincidence or not, truth is that since the success of “The Bible," SIC's leading man has had a very busy professional agenda. The Portuguese “Jesus” is shooting “Ambição,” the next series from SIC, and still manages to spend time with family. His 3 year-old son, Santiago, is his major priority, and that’s why the weekends are totally dedicated to him. “Although I am shooting at a hectic pace, I still have some time to go to the beach. And, like any kid, my son loves the beach and the sea, ” he tells Lux.
On the 18th, Diogo Morgado will know if he his one of the Emmy nominees for Outstanding Lead Actor for his role on “The Bible.” The pre-nomination was received with “huge pride and happiness,” but Diogo insists that if he is not one of the nominees, he won’t be disappointed.  “At the age of 15, I never thought I would be an actor, and, at 32, the last thing I would have thought was to be nominated for an Emmy. It's maybe a once in a lifetime thing. I am from that stubborn breed who continues to be proud of Portugal,” the actor reassures, and shows that the ambition to embrace an international career is not a priority.

More of "The Bible" (UPDATED)

By now, I'm sure you've all heard that NBC has picked up a "sequel" to "The Bible."  The new series will be called "A.D.: BEYOND THE BIBLE," and according to the press release:

"A.D.: BEYOND THE BIBLE begins in the dark days after Jesus’ betrayal and death. A perfect storm brews in the Holy Land, fueled by social injustice, Roman military oppression and religious unrest. High priests and the Herod dynasty vie for power. Zealot revolutionaries turn to violence to regain what they believe is their promised land. And in the face of terrible odds and brutal persecution, the small band of Jesus’ disciples stand against the combined might of Rome and their own local authorities. In a generation of rebellion, war, famine, and carnage, who can they trust? Who should they fear? Will tomorrow bring a violent death? For many, it does … but others survive, and as the storm around them breaks, the fate of Israel, of Rome and of their faith is decided."

Now, please note there has been NO mention of any cast members for the new series.  Many of you have e-mailed me asking about Diogo and Darwin being in this new series.  My opinion?  AND THIS IS JUST MY OPINION.  I have NO info or in inside scoop and will gladly admit if/when I am wrong... but based on that description above of the new series, it seems to me the character of "Jesus" would be a "cameo" or guest character at best, perhaps appearing occasionally in flashbacks.  And I do believe Roma and Mark would love to have Diogo and Darwin and the others back for the new series... but and again, this is ONLY MY OPINION, but I feel that now NBC may play a big role in that decision.  Do they have a different "vision" in mind, and also, there are other factors like actors' availability and schedules, where and when they are going to film and for how long, etc. that all comes into play for casting decisions.  Fact is, until someone makes an official announcement about the cast for the series, we just won't know for sure.  Stay tuned....

UPDATED TO ADD:  More info on the series in a brand new interview Mark Burnett gave about how the series came to land at NBC and when and where it will film, but still no news on the cast: Mark Burnett on The Bible Sequel for NBC from TVGuide.com

More TMN commercials with Diogo on the way!

Good news!  It looks like we'll be seeing quite a bit more of Diogo and friends in future TMN commercials this summer!  According to the Portuguese publication "Meios e Publicidade" ("Media and Advertising") the first commercial that debuted yesterday was just the beginning. The article says the TMN campaign, whose slogan is "there are things you'll want to tell everyone," stars "Diogo Morgado as 'Diogo,' a nostalgic, modern bar owner of Malhão Beach Bar, who returns this summer to the beach and decides to invite his old friends, adults now, to return to the beach of their childhood and rebuild the bar that gave them so many summer memories.”

Furthermore, Portuguese publication Marketeer says the commercial is actually the first of five TV ads TMN will run, as a "series" called "Internet Open Bar."  The official statement from TMN said of the series of commercials: "In this environment they will spend a summer with many adventures, starring different characters ... As in every group of friends, there is a geek who spends his time in the shadows glued to the phone checking e-mails, the cute girl who breaks hearts all summer, the girl who "seems spaced-out" but only makes blunders and plays tricks, the dodgy friend who is the “tanned hot guy” of the beach -- who is always bugging others with ideas and will find himself caught up in a joke among the friends and, of course, Diogo, the bar owner."

Diogo to appear in new ad campaign in Portugal

TMN, a Portuguese mobile phone company, announced this week that Diogo will be the "face" of their upcoming ad campaign.  The campaign is expected to include a commercial and print ads, launching sometime this weekend or week.

I will post the video and images of the ads as soon as I get them.  But, and I could be wrong, but I think this may have been what Diogo was filming when was tweeting and sharing pictures of filming last weekend, including this picture he shared, saying: "Shooting at the beach. Costa Vicentina Rules!!!"

We shall see.... In the meantime, take a look at this video about another ad campaign Diogo participated in back in 2010 for "Boa Estética" clinics. (A translation, thanks to the ever amazing Lou da Gama, is below the video.)

Drive Time

Last time, we took a look at Diogo turning the tables and being the host/interviewer.  Today we will again see Diogo in the driver's seat -- this time, literally.

(screencap from video below by me)

Today's "Clip of the Day" comes from 2011, when Diogo appeared on the automotive show called "Volante" ("Steering Wheel.")  Similar to the BBC's hit series "Top Gear," for this episode, Diogo was the celebrity guest asked to drive the "mystery car."  The incredible Lou da Gama kindly translated this fun segment for us, found right below the video, and includes the time marks for Diogo's parts on the show.

(at 1:20) - Sara Gil do Couto (interviewer): Hello. Our guest for the “the Mystery Car” today is an actor well known to all.
Diogo: Well! Good morning!
