"The Bible" has been nominated for three Emmys!

No, Diogo was not nominated.  :(  But we all know he deserves an Emmy and more for his incredible portrayal of Jesus, regardless.  And I am sure Diogo is just as thrilled that "The Bible" was nominated for "Outstanding Miniseries or Movie."

A HUGE congratulations to Mark, Roma, Diogo, Darwin, and all the cast and crew for being recognized by the TV Academy for their amazing work.  "The Bible" received two other Emmy nominations today as well -- Outstanding Sound Editing and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Miniseries or Movie.  Again, congratulations to all.  We are all rooting for you to bring the Emmy home!

And look, I understand the disappointment in Diogo not being nominated.  But a nomination for "The Bible" for "Outstanding Miniseries or Movie" in a very tough category in a very competitive year DOES reaffirm what we have all known and said about him since we first saw his brilliant performance in the series, so this is still definitely a day to celebrate!

The 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on Sunday, September 22nd, and you can find the complete list of nominees in all categories here.

  3. I am sure that bigger surprises are reserved for Diogo.
    Is talent speaks for himself!

And I bet that the love that surrounds him, and that comes from his family, friends and fans is the biggest prize he ever needed/wanted in life!

Fingers crossed for The Bible Series now! The nomination for "Outstanding Miniseries or Movie" has all the cast and crew included!

    ;)

    1. Very well said! I'm still disappointed for him tho, that his hard work did not get recognized. But who needs the Academy when he's got us, right? :-)

  4. I cannot believe that Michael Douglas and Matt Damon were nominated and not Diogo, just goes to show you that Hollywood takes care of their own. I am horrified over this list.

  5. >>And look, I understand the disappointment...<< OHHH SaraB you read my MIND!!! but you're right, there is still cause to celebrate. I guess I just assumed he would be and never stopped to consider the possibility that he wouldn't. *sigh* Okay... focus! Focus on the other category. Definitely a big deal. And he knows we love him lots and wish him every success. Clearly in our minds, he won in March, no matter who the award goes to.

  6. I think the blog shows I am a true Diogo fan LOL, but I also get the Emmys. Thing is, Diogo was in a VERY difficult category.... it's miniseries OR movie... which means, he was competing with A List actors who did HBO movies. HBO is a pay cable network who can afford and does HUGE marketing campaigns both for their movies AND their Emmy campaign.... History Channel cannot compete with that. And, now, shows like American Horror Story which only air 10 or less episodes a season are now considered miniseries, which REALLY pisses me off because it is so NOT a miniseries... it is a drama series, with fewer episodes LOL. Seriously, the actor candidates in comedy or drama series didn't have the kind of competition Diogo did. This year HBO had two high profile movies... Liberace's life story and Phil Spector's life story. Jesus may be better known than either, but sadly in terms of hype and awards, Jesus just wasn't as scandalous as either LOL. So actors often get "rewarded" more for playing those types of roles. And Michael Douglas and Matt Damon got a lot of praise and press for kissing each other and playing gay. Is that as brave or daring as filming a crucifixion scene for 3 days? Only in Hollywood's eyes it seems.

That said, when you look at the miniseries and movie contenders this year, the fact that "The Bible" got nominated is impressive, and because a big part of "The Bible"'s success was a result of Diogo's work as Jesus, we cannot overlook that he WAS recognized. As were many others like Darwin who is equally deserving. And since Diogo has often said he doesn't seek or like to draw attention to himself, I wouldn't be surprised if sharing this nomination with ALL who made the series the success and quality it was doesn't mean just as much to him as he solely being nominated would.

My point is, while as fans it is understandable to be disappointed he didn't get a nomination, we also need to realize that being a part of an Emmy nominated series is still a GREAT thing and something we should celebrate and congratulate. See the post from a couple of days ago called "Emmy Chat." Diogo was SO proud when "Laços de Sangue" won the Emmy. SO proud and happy, and it was the SHOW that won, NOT him. I just can't help but know that he will be equally as proud and happy when "The Bible" wins. :)

This is just the beginning in many ways, folks... meaning, Diogo has many, many award nominations, wins, AND losses in his future. But his talent and humbleness will not be affected by any of those in my opinion... and for THAT, there is no award to give Diogo, but there damn well should be.

    1. "the fact that "The Bible" got nominated is impressive, and because a big part of "The Bible"'s success was a result of Diogo's work as Jesus"... ABSOLUTELY!!!

I agree that Diogo may be very proud for the nomination of the series.

From what I understood, there is a lot of "politics" and marketing behind nominations in Hollywood. I say this because I read a couple of articles about why some of the voters for the Oscars voted for an actor in detriment of others. A guy simply said, "I don't vote for him because I don't like him." Besides, I also read that there is a lot of campaigning and marketing for the Oscars (and I guess the same happens for the Emmys). Ben Affleck (whom I can't stand, and even less the biased way he portrayed the Iranian hostage crisis in his movie) was said to be doing it a LOT. I used to think it was all about talent. I was wrong. And I think that Jennifer Lawrence winning an Oscar this year shows how much marketing is important. Her Oscar was a joke in my opinion.

But, only Sara knows better how things work in this world.

Having said that... I'm not interested in seeing Matt Damon and Michael Douglas kissing, but I have to say that the first kiss between Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal in Brokeback Mountain is, for me, one of the most beautiful and hottest kisses I've ever seen in a movie.

  7. I couldn't have expressed that opinion about Hollywood any better; putting the characters that Matt Damon and Michael Douglas portrayed in the same category as Diogo playing Jesus Christ is almost unbelievable, almost. He surely won in all our hearts, and I think you're right that he will be happy and proud that the series as a collaborated effort is being recognized, which I think he feels(and I'm guessing)comfortable with. Don't get me wrong, I think Michael Douglas and Matt Damon are excellent actors, but to compare them, is apples to oranges. Maybe there should be a new category-Best actor in a breakout performance(in the US market)!
