Hi Diogo Morgado Fans! Liliana here! (@MsLiliana -- the Portuguese girl, Lol) It’s a pleasure to contribute to this awesome Blog! My big thank you to Sara for inviting me to do this "Throwback Thursday" I hope you all enjoy it! 

Today's film features Diogo playing a gay character.....  Say what??

Okay, keep calm, I’ll explain…

“O Crime do Padre Amaro" ("The Crime of Amaro, the Priest") is a 2005 Portuguese film directed by Carlos Coelho da Silva, adapted from the book of the same name written in 1875 by Eça de Queiroz. 

This film broke all box office records of Portuguese films in Portugal. It moves the setting from the book in the city of Leiria in 1875, to Lisbon in 2005, full of problems and socio-cultural marginalization. 

Amaro (Jorge Corrula) is a young priest, fresh out of the seminary, who comes to Lisbon replace a deceased priest. The young Amaro knows Amelia (Soraia Chaves), a young sensual and seductive girl, which causes the priest feelings never before experienced. Amaro does everything to resist the temptation, but Amelia does not give up. Can a man of God overcome this carnal desire?

And where does Diogo fit in to all of this?

In the movie, Diogo plays "Libaninho," and Rui Unas plays "Alex," a gay couple (and hairdressers!) who live near and become enchanted with their new priest, Amaro.

Hello my fellow DiogoFanFriends, I’m Domique (@hazeleyez79_DRW on twitter).  A pleasure to meet all of you.  For my "Throwback Thursday" spotlight, my focus is a true story drama from Diogo’s awesome film collection.  His talent is beyond measure. Oh… and by the way, we get an idea of what Diogo may look like when he gets old.  He is still as handsome as ever.  I hope you guys like it as much as I do.  

"A Vida Privada de Salazar" (The Private Life of Salazar)

“A Vida Privada de Salazar” was a miniseries based on a true story.  Salazar was a professor and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Portugal for over forty years.  At the end of his life, Salazar reflects on his options and choices he made and did not make. The story was focused on Salazar’s life from when he was a young man spending time in a seminary through his time spent as a teacher and the over forty years he ruled as a Portuguese dictator. During this time, he had a “turbulent effective” secret life. 

Salazar’s appetite for women was the major focus of the miniseries. He never married and devoted his life to his country.  The film shines a light on his personal life, which was unknown to many for years.

“A Vida Privada de Salazar” was released in Portugal in February of 2009.  Filming took place in Lisbon, Portugal, Diogo Morgado’s hometown.  Diogo portrayed the lead character, Portuguese dictator Antonio de Oliveira Salazar.

Hi, fellow Diogo fan friends! I am Celena, (aka @Celena229), guest contributor to the blog.  I am excited to share my first "Throwback Thursday" post with you.  I think it's safe to say that we all agree what a talented actor Diogo is... and after much research that talent is evident in his many roles before his portrayal of Jesus in "The Bible." 

Today's "Throwback Thursday" is from 2007 -- a movie called "The Italian Writer" (“A Escritora Italiana.”) Diogo plays "Joseph," a tormented American seminarian who is a member of Opus Dei. In the future, Joseph enters a bookstore in search of an Italian writer. As he searches for the name, he recounts the story of a woman he met 30 years ago. While in Lisbon, Portugal Joseph meets Giulia, an Italian writer. The two are immediately attracted to one another. Giulia is in Lisbon on a mission -- to find a woman who her father had a relationship with many years ago. Joseph is intrigued by her story and proposes that he and Giulia make the most of their 12-hour train delays (due to the Pope’s visit to Portugal) to try and find the woman. Lucia Moniz, who plays Giulia, also starred in “Vingança” with Diogo.

Hi, Jodie (aka @jodiedebb) here again!  It’s time for another Throwback Thursday, and oh, my dear DiogoFanFriends –- my eyes have been opened to this wonderful show called "Vingança." (Which means Revenge in English!)  This very dramatic story was broadcast on SIC TV in Portugal in 2007. 

I won’t go into the whole back story –- because it’s long and the translation is a little complicated, but the general gist is that "Santiago" (played by Diogo) is in love with Laura. Due to some betrayal (this is where it gets fuzzy for me), Santiago ends up in jail in Morocco (ironic?), but everybody at home, including Laura thinks he is dead. Laura ends up marrying Santiago’s best friend, Santiago comes back to find her, which brings us to this scene, where she is in the hospital (I’m not really sure why).
