(Note from Sara: Today's second "Throwback Thursday" comes from returning guest blog contributor Jodie, aka @jodiedebb, so please show her some love over on Twitter or in the comments section here. Thanks, Sara)
Hi, Jodie (aka @jodiedebb) here again! It’s time for another Throwback Thursday, and oh, my dear DiogoFanFriends –- my eyes have been opened to this wonderful show called "Vingança." (Which means Revenge in English!) This very dramatic story was broadcast on SIC TV in Portugal in 2007.
I won’t go into the whole back story –- because it’s long and the translation is a little complicated, but the general gist is that "Santiago" (played by Diogo) is in love with Laura. Due to some betrayal (this is where it gets fuzzy for me), Santiago ends up in jail in Morocco (ironic?), but everybody at home, including Laura thinks he is dead. Laura ends up marrying Santiago’s best friend, Santiago comes back to find her, which brings us to this scene, where she is in the hospital (I’m not really sure why).
I chose this for today’s "Throwback Thursday" because it’s another side of Diogo’s talent that we get to see… Diogo in tears. I don’t speak a lick of Portuguese but I FELT the emotion in this scene, which just goes to show you how great of an actor Diogo is!

Thank you to the lovely Liliana (@MsLiliana) for being kind enough to translate this scene for all of us who don’t speak Portuguese!
The dialogue goes like this:
"Santiago: Yes, it’s me.
Laura: You look different.
Santiago: Take a rest… (Cries) You need to rest
Laura: Did you come to take me away?
Santiago: I have to go now… but soon…….
Laura: This son… our son… is your son…
Santiago: We do not have a kid, Laura, you are confused.
Laura: Try to take care of him, for us… our son…
Santiago: Take a rest… Everything will be ok. Get some sleep…
Laura: Don't leave me again… Stay here with me
Santiago: I never left you… not me!
(Santiago takes off his necklace and talks to his dead father.)
Santiago: Take care of her dad, I need her here. Help me dad, don't let me down now, I need you. Take care of Laura, I beg you!!
(Santiago takes a mobile pic of Laura.)
Santiago: I wish I could take you with me , Laura…
Santiago: I love you."
Thank you for all of your support of Sara's diogofanfriends blog thus far! I feel so blessed to be a part of something that shares Diogo’s talent with the world, and I hope that he has a long and prosperous career ahead of him. I know we will all be there every step of the way to support him!
(Thanks/credit for seeing this video does go to @KeriRose_2829 for posting it on twitter!)
Thanks,
Jodie aka @jodiedebb
(Thank you Jodie for another great "Throwback Thursday!" Another cool fact about "Vingança" to me is that it is based on the book, "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas. Thanks again Jodie, and I am glad you are a part of this blog too! :) Xoxo, Sara)
Thanks Sara for this AWESOME blog and nice work on the post Jodie.
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny, just this week I started watching Vinganca on Youtube even tho I don't understand a word of it either lol! But his sheer talent comes thru in spades. Thank you for the translation!
ReplyDeleteOk so, I'm like totally hooked on this show and I don't even understand a word. I need the English subtitled version of it. Diogo is such a talented actor. Good one Jodie. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteWhat's great about Diogo's acting is that we don't need subtitles - he portrays what the character feels so well that we get it!
ReplyDeleteHey Jodie, thanks for posting the translation! I've been watching clips of this thing for about a week now and it. is. SERIOUS tear-jerker material. my kingdom for instant portuguese skills!
