Isabel comes home to find clothes spread all over the floor.  She mutters to herself that her sister has screwed up when suddenly Eduardo appears from the other room, re-dressing himself. Isabel is shocked and Benedita enters the room too, unable to hide her embarrassment.  Eduardo threatens Isabel by telling her that if she tells anyone what she saw, she will never be allowed in the factory to work ever again.  Isabel goes to her room, very nervous.  Benedita chastises Eduardo for threatening her sister, but he thinks it was the most effective way of guaranteeing that Isabel will not tell anyone she caught them together.

Eduardo returns to the family home and Dulce shows her concern for the way he left home the previous night, convinced that his mother kicked him out without thinking about what she was doing. The maid also tells Eduardo that Andreia is in their room, and he says he needs to go talk to her.  Once in their bedroom, Eduardo puts clothes in a suitcase while talking with Andreia, accusing her of having hurt him and upsetting everyone for no reason, because he never wanted to not help his sister, he was just trying to have some time to get used to the idea of giving her a kidney.  But his wife does not believe that he has such good intentions... and Eduardo says that she must have loved seeing him get kicked out by his own mother.  Andreia admits that she actually did not expect such drastic action from Laura, and she then asks him where he spent the night.  Eduardo says at a hotel and is furious when she next asks if he slept alone or with company.  Eduardo retaliates by telling his wife that in the morning, without any make up, she looks ten years older.

Teresa goes against Laura's wishes, and accepts Eduardo's invitation to lunch, explaining that she needs to understand what led him to hide the fact that he is a match to donate his kidney.

At their lunch meeting, Eduardo apologizes to Teresa for having concealed that he is a match, and he tries to justify his reasons for doing so... but ultimately confessing that the truth was, he was a coward.  His sister does not feel well during their conversation but she does her best to hide her discomfort. Eduardo tells her that it is time for him to act like her brother, and he will do the transplant, and give her the kidney she needs to survive.

I have to say, Diogo is truly incredible in that ending scene with "Teresa."   Do yourself a favor and watch it -- it starts at 55:37 in the above clip. No need for a full translation, his facial expressions, timing and body language alone perfectly exemplify what I love about Diogo's talent, and specifically his portrayal of "Eduardo."  The fact that he plays such a flawed character with these layers of humanity to bring such depth to this role blows me away.  Diogo's talent/gifts and interpretation that he uniquely brings to "Eduardo" is for me, what makes Eduardo a true character, and not just a caricature.

  1. I knew there had to be a heart in there somewhere. Great scene with great acting, and thank you for pointing it out to us.

  2. Could there really be a beating heart in Eduardo? And here I thought I'd never find anything redeeming about him.
