Today's "Clip of the Day" is an interview Diogo did talking about his "Biografia" in December of 2009. Yes, the interview is over three years old and yes, he's added so much more since and will add even more to his biography for many years to come.
But it is his quote about happiness here that really made me want to share this interview. That and why I hope he never stops biting his nails. :)
Fan Lou da Gama sent me this clip, and has also kindly provided a translation of the interview, which you will find right below the clip to see the quotes I am talking about.
I(clip courtesy of RTP/YouTube)
Reporter - Diogo, I’m sure that 14 years ago, when we first met, you never imagined that you would already have a biography documentary.
Diogo - No, I didn't imagine it, no. My first steps were as people know in the world of fashion, and that’s when we met… and after all the things and surprises I've had, it’s great... that a biography, a look at what I've done, happens at a time like this… it’s great.
Reporter – So, you've just become a dad. That's a great career!
Diogo – Oh yes! I’m a dad and he’s healthy. That’s the role of my life! That’s the role of life!
Reporter – 14 years later, you still bite your nails!!?
Diogo – Come on!!! Come on!!! Tsssss!
Reporter – Shame on you! Show it to me! Show it to me! (She tries to catch his hand.)
Diogo – No, I don’t show it! No, I don’t show it (he hides his hands). This is my answer. Look! If I bite my nails, it’s because I get nervous. If I’m nervous, it’s because I want to do things well. So, on the day I stop biting my nails, it’s because I no longer care. And then, all things will become meaningless.
Reporter – Santiago (FYI his son, named after his character in “Vingança”) is your dream come true, for I remember that many years ago you already wanted to be a dad.
Diogo – He is, indeed! Happiness only makes sense when shared. And a child is not only someone with whom you can share happiness but also someone to whom you can pass on the importance of happiness and the path to achieved it. And, that is truly your place [in life].
Reporter – This Christmas will be different for you.
Diogo – Yeah! With one more family member, it has another meaning. It almost feels like Christmas when we were kids.
Reporter – 2009 was a great year for you. I wish you a great Christmas and an even better 2010.
Diogo – Me too, a happy Christmas and a huge kiss to everyone."

Thank you again to Lou da Gama for another great clip and translation.
Only Diogo could make nail biting endearing LOL. And you are right Sara, his quote about Happiness only making sense when shared is awesome. Thanks for sharing so much happiness with us on this blog. Thanks to Lou too.
ReplyDeleteI love his reason to want to be a dad and the nail biting :).
ReplyDeleteWhere's the like button?
ReplyDeleteAw thanks Kate. I agree with him, happiness makes so much more sense when shared, this blog proves that for me! :) And Lou, yes, and thanks again. And Domique, your comment is the best like button ever as far as I am concerned!
ReplyDeleteDid any of the Portuguese fans see his biography? Was it as good as I imagine it was LOL??? Thanks for the post Sara and Lou.
ReplyDeleteI saw it on YouTube recently. It had some actors, directors and other people who work in the TV/movie industry saying why they believed, when Diogo started as a kid, that he was more talented and more capable of succeeding as an actor than other actors. They say he was determined, hard worker and curious.
DeleteIt also had an interview with James Foley, with whom Diogo was supposed to have worked in a movie, which never happened due to production issues, saying that he was impressed by his humbleness and by the fact that he cared about his work, but not about being famous.
i saw it as well, and tried to follow along as best i could - it was excellent! i think youtube has broken it down into about 6 parts - about an hour's worth?
DeleteI'm going to sound like a broken record here, but as usual wonderful clip and post! It keeps getting better and better. Keep up the excellent work, Sara! Diogo is such a genuine person. It shows in his work and interviews. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteJames Foley was supposed to direct "Mary Mother of Christ" where Diogo was supposed to play Joseph and Al Pacino was supposed to be in it I believe. And the casting director called Diogo the next Marlon Brando. It was sad when the film fell through but it is also what led to Diogo getting the role of Jesus so everything has a purpose. Thanks Lou for the recap and translation. You are most helpful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lou da Gama for this one!! Isn´t it great to help Sara with this Blog?! I say it's a part of being Portuguese. We LOVE to give, to show our country, to show portuguese talent... =)
ReplyDeleteOh! I'm a promoting freak :). I have shown portuguese music (Mariza, Madredeus, etc), movies and images of Portugal... to all my friends here in Montreal, where I live now, and to some friends in US and in Japan. Next weekend, we are going to watch "Mysteries of Lisbon".
DeleteI've been talking about Diogo too. A Canadian friend of mine told me about him, "he's beautiful not only physically. He has a beautiful light."
>>He has a beautiful light." What a wonderful thing to say, and so true!
DeleteThanks, Lou, for sharing this and for the translation :-) Sara, it is so good to come home to another blog post each day - thanks, thanks, and treble times, thanks - makes me happy in my heart. Oh, by the by, I wondered about the wedding ring on the right hand so I looked it up. Appaz, there are quite a few countries, including Portugal, where people wear their wedding bands on their right hands. There is your Monday afternoon trivia :-)
ReplyDeletePortuguese wear rings, bracelets, necklases, all with their own specific meaning... Right hand, left hand... not important. We love to wear something with passion, a recall from a place, a keepsake from someone... And we do not discuss that... Each one does the way it pleases... This is us... simple and uncomplicated with life! =) Proud of that!
ReplyDeleteTrue :)! My friends in Montreal have commented, "you always wear some bijouterie!", and I always answer, "in Portugal we like it, girls and boys too."
DeleteThank you so much for the wonderful blog so I can get my "Diogo Fix"!!!! I can always count on you ladies to provide such wonderful clips and info on Diogo!!! Love and enjoy all the clips and the translations are so helpful!!! He is such a delight to watch and hear ( in any language) and this interview/clip only gives me another reason to love this man!!! He is so honest with his answers and so real!!! :) And his son, Santiago is such a handsome little fellow.. taking after his daddy!!! :) xoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteGreat interview! I'm just curious - is that his mom with him around 10 seconds in?
ReplyDeleteI think she's in his mom.
DeleteThanks :)
