Clip of the Day -- Diogo Does His Own Stunt!

Anyone who has seen the Crucifixion scene in "The Bible" knows that Diogo is a fearless actor.... but today's "Clip of the Day" is another perfect example of that.

For his role as "João Caldas Ribeiro" in the 2010 SIC TV drama series, "Laços de Sangue" ("Blood Ties"), Diogo decided to do one of his own stunts, despite his fears.  The stunt?  Jumping off of a cliff.... literally.

He discussed doing the daring stunt in an interview with SIC TV, and right under the clip, you will find a translation of the interview, once again thanks to our own fearless heroine, @MsLiliana.

"The fearless and determined Diogo Morgado at the filming of 'Laços de Sangue.'"

Reporter: At the second day of filming of one of the most dangerous scenes of the drama “Laços de Sangue,” Diogo Morgado surprised and made a point of doing the cliff fall himself.  I thought the production wouldn't let you do the jump…?

Diogo Morgado: And they didn’t!! No, no «joking» I understand their fear… I think it is more fruitful if it is done by ourselves, or at least a part of it. The scene wins if I am the one to do it!

Reporter: But you were afraid, weren't you?

Diogo Morgado: Of course I was! It´s 12m altitude.  It's high! But that is the time that we have to put our fears behind us… and let's do it!

Reporter: When you heard, “Action!” what crossed your mind?

Diogo Morgado: No, I was hearing “Action!!” since I woke up! I just put in my mind that I was going to jump! It was just a question of convincing the authorities, so they would let me do it!  I didn't have a bad fall, so I’m cool, the water was cold, besides that… it was worth it. I like this, I like these things, if minimum safety is provided, I always prefer to do my stunts. And it's also about overcoming our own fears, you know? It’s about doing what you set out to do. And that is such a great sensation!

Reporter: Congratulations!

Diogo Morgado: Thank yous!"

FYI, in 2011, "Laços de Sangue" won an Emmy for "Best International Telenovela."  Diogo was on hand with the rest of the cast and producers to accept the award in New York.

Here's an incredible trailer for "Laços de Sangue," WITH English subtitles:

  7. Yes Dee-Dee, in Portugal we respect the private life of our actors, The most important thing it's their work not their livies. So, we must respect that. I hope do you understand me, my english isn't so good as Liliana.

  8. Thanks to all for the kind words. But for me, YOU all and Diogo's talent/career are what this blog is all about, and why it's finding an audience. So thank you, sincerely. And Ana, I so admire the Portuguese audiences for their respect of privacy. It should be all about the work, wish it were the same here in the US, but we can all maybe help change that. And your English is great. :)
