"Sol de Inverno" - Episodes 198 and 199 Translations

SO sorry for the delay!  Real life strikes again!  But here finally are scenes from Diogo's final episodes of "Sol de Inverno" to catch us up, and to bid, for me anyway, what is a bittersweet farewell to Eduardo.

(Click the "Read More" link below to read the rest of this post...)
But first, to recap what happened in the episodes we have missed, Eduardo finally proposed to Rita, but she didn't want to sign a pre-nup and doesn't think he really loves her because he hasn't married her yet. As much as Rita wanted Eduardo's siblings to notice her engagement ring and care, they did not, as they all have nothing left but hatred toward Eduardo now, convinced he knows where their mother is.   Due to the death of Thais AND Laura's disappearance, Detective Morales began following Eduardo, who was so proud he was able to lose the detective when he was being followed, but he gave Rita a burner cell phone just in case, and told her they need to be extra careful.  Rita went to visit Laura when Eduardo couldn't, and Laura offered her everything and anything if she let her go.  Rita refused, but later, Eduardo returned to find Laura had escaped!  He tells Rita they must get all the money they can and leave town as soon as possible.  Rita reluctantly agrees, finally.  And that's where we pick up our scenes below.  And of course, as always, a huge, HUGE thank you to Dina for the translations!  We love and owe you Dina!

(As we already know, Laura managed to escape.  After dragging herself through the city, not able to remember the phone numbers to call to her children, and feeling increasingly weak, she decides to knock on Sofia’s door, and ask for help.  Sofia takes pity on her and helps her. The next day, when Eduardo arrives at Boheme to go deal with withdrawing money, Laura is already waiting for him.)
Eduardo: Good morning.
Angela: Good morning, Dr.
Eduardo: Any messages?
Angela: No, only the notes from the meeting.
Eduardo: Okay. Uncheck everything. Cancel all appointments that I have scheduled for today.
(Eduardo enters hurriedly in the office and is shocked when he sees his mother)
Laura: Eduardo, you came in early. Decided to finally arrive on time? Or you couldn't sleep, thinking about me?
Eduardo: (panicked) Mom... Mom... let's talk...
Laura: No, you will hear me out. You're just gonna listen to me. What you did to me, shouldn't be done to anyone. Because of you I spent the worst months of my life. I could never do what you did, no matter who it was.
Eduardo: You've done a lot worse. Has already done much worse. Have you forgotten what you did to Luís, hmm? You drove Álvaro to suicide ...
Laura: I'm your mother. What you did is the act of a deeply unbalanced person.  The one who should be admitted to a psychiatric hospital is you.
Eduardo: The blame for this is yours. The fault of all of this is from you, mother.
Laura: You’re right. The fault is really mine because I let you transform into this poor thing you are. The weak can be really dangerous ...
Eduardo: But I was going to release you, mother... (crying) Seriously I was going to release you, mother. I could no longer stand to see you in that condition. But Mother, you have to know... I told Rita that I couldn't take it anymore, I wanted to end it... but the situation got out of control ...
Laura: Stop saying these things, Eduardo. You can be rest assured that I will not call the police. This matter is to be resolved between us.
Eduardo: (relieved) Yes mother, we’ll solve it ourselves, we'll get through this.
Laura: You have 24 hours to leave the country. And never return, do you hear me? Never come back again. Never. Don't send emails, don't call, don't make contact with your siblings, don't even say goodbye to the dogs. Otherwise I will go to the police and you wil; rot in jail the rest of your days.
Eduardo: (disappointed) Mom... Okay... Just give me some time for me to pack my things.
Laura: You didn't need time to do what you did. Pack your things and disappear. Get out of my way. And take Rita with you. I have already given orders to the bank to not give you any money. What you have is enough to purchase airline tickets. Now get out of here and never come back, Eduardo.
Eduardo: Okay…
(And he leaves.)

(Eduardo and Rita pack their bags to leave. The mood is very tense.)
Eduardo: What? You're just gonna stand there, is that it?
Rita: But how did this happen to us, Eduardo? Didn't I say we needed to end it with your mother? Didn't I tell you?
Eduardo: Doesn’t matter how this happened.
Rita: It matters.
Eduardo: Doesn't matter. Now let's just get our stuff and leave. Okay? It will not be so bad. I lived in Brazil many months and it wasn't bad.
Rita: Eduardo, we have to stop and think. There has to be another solution...  go where? With what money? We cannot survive without money.
Eduardo: But who says we have no money? We have money. I have some money. I have money to survive, to start a business, to do anything.
Rita: But let's flee to where?
Eduardo: I DON’T KNOW! No idea Rita. Now we have to pack our things and go to the hotel, where we stayed last night. Can we? And then there calmly, think of the country that we’ll go to. If it's Brazil, Mozambique or Angola, or something.
Rita: Ahhh, that's just what I need. No way. I'm not going to Africa.
Eduardo: No?
Rita: No, I’m not going.
Eduardo: So, you can stay here alone.

(Simão, Margarida and Salvador are waiting in the living room as Laura returns home with Teresa, when Eduardo and Rita are on their way out with their bags.)
Eduardo: I'm glad you are all gathered here. You may already know that I'm leaving, don't you?
Simão: Eduardo, we don’t want to talk anymore with you. Go away.
Margarida: Yes, there is nothing more you can say that will change how we feel about you.
Eduardo: I know how you feel. But I also want you to know I'm aware that not I've always not done good things. But everything I learned was from our mother. It's true. You don’t have the slightest idea of what our mother does, and always has done. Ask her, ask her how she created that scheme, to accuse Álvaro and Sofia of embezzlement at the company. Ask her.
Salvador: Better go away, before you cross them.
Eduardo: Until another day then.
Margarida: I hope you never come back.
(Eduardo and Rita leave.)
Later, after buying their airline tickets to leave the country and convincing Rita that she is different from Thais and he has no plans of leaving her, Eduardo has now taken to following his mother's car.....

(Laura is inspecting the building owned by Boheme, to see if it's worth fixing up or if they should sell it, when Eduardo appears.)
Eduardo: Dangerous place to walk alone, mother.
Laura: What’re you doing here?
Eduardo: I came to say goodbye
Laura: Carlos is outside.
Eduardo: I know. That's why I entered by the other side of the street. So he wouldn’t see me.
(Eduardo advances and Laura retreats.)
Eduardo: Don’t be afraid, mother. I won’t do you harm.
Laura: You should have taken the opportunity I gave you to get out of here.
(Laura grabs an iron pipe.)
Laura: STAY WHERE YOU ARE! Stay.
Eduardo: Oh mom ... calm down mother, I just want to talk to you.
(Eduardo disarms her.)
Laura: Eduardo, think hard about what you'll do. You had the opportunity to kill me during these months and you didn't do it. Now that''s what you're gonna do?
Eduardo: MOM?? Oh mom .... You think I'm going to hurt you? No... Mom, I want you to forgive me...
Laura: I've forgiven you. Now, I can’t forget what you did to me. I'll never forget.
Eduardo: NOR I ! Neither do I ... I'll never forget. You know mom, I finally realized that my own mother never liked me. Always treated me differently than my siblings. Although I did everything, EVERYTHING, to please her.
Laura: I've always treated you the same way. I demanded responsibility from you, which is something you don’t have.
Eduardo: NO! I always did everything to please you. ALWAYS! And mother always pushed me aside. Always. At home, in the company ... Although I did everything, always treated  me in a different way. Even the bastard. Even the bastard was loved more than me.
Laura: I've always treated you equally. I always treated you the same way ...
Eduardo: (knocks on the wall with the iron pipe) NO! Not true! Not true! Even the bastard always got more love than me. And I, mother ... And I ... I do deserve to be by your side at Boheme. I've always been there for you. Always. And there I was, to be humiliated. Constantly being humiliated and moreover, to help you...
Laura: Easy, Eduardo. Take it easy.
Eduardo: And I've always loved you so much, mom ...
Laura: You still can redo your life.
Eduardo: NO, NO, NO! I don’t want to have to run away like a dog. I don’t want to have to go away with Rita. You took everything from me.
Laura: It's not like that, Eduardo. It's not like that.
Eduardo: Mom ... mom ... mom ... My mother died on the day she stopped loving me.
Laura: Is that what you think? So kill me. KILL ME!
Eduardo: Shut up.
Laura: KILL ME!!!
Eduardo: SHUT UP!!!
Laura: If you don’t have the guts to do it, then get out of my way...
Eduardo: (throws the pipe to the floor, leans Laura against the wall and begins to grab her by her neck) SHUT UP! SHUT UP! At this point you should be begging for your life.
Laura: You know I don’t beg for anything.
(Eduardo tightens his grip around her neck harder.)
Eduardo: All that I did was to please you, Mom.
(Laura, in a last ditched effort, pushes Eduardo, who is fatally impaled on to a beam, and falls dead at her feet. Eduardo calls out to as he lays dying: "Mom... mom..."  Laura cries, hugging a dying Eduardo.)
Laura: What have I done? What did I do?
(Laura calls Detective Morais asking for help.)

Later, Laura explains to Morais that the death of Eduardo was accidental and occurred after he attacked her and she was defending herself.
The detective grants Laura's request to remove Eduardo's body.  At that moment Eduardo’s phone starts ringing, and Laura gets even more nervous, hanging up abruptly, realizing that it is Rita.  Morais sends her away and Laura follows his advice, heading toward the car and asking Carlos to take her to the river.

Carlos leaves Laura by the river.  Suddenly a child kicks a ball towards Laura.  The boy's mother calls him and Laura thinks she's hearing the name "Eduardo." Meanwhile, Morais put Eduardo’s body in a body bag, and puts him in the trunk.

Laura returns to Boheme and tries to hide everything when she sees Teresa.  Teresa finds the amount of time that her mother was gone to be odd. Laura says she felt the need to go see the river, perhaps because of having been trapped inside for months.  Angela says that Rita phoned looking for Eduardo and Teresa wonders if Eduardo has left her.  Alone in the office, Laura unleashes her pain.

Laura calls Detective Morais.  He tells her she can rest now, everything is being handled.  Eduardo’s body is thrown deep into the sea.
________

RIP "Eduardo."  I didn't always like the character, but I always LOVED the layers of complexity and feeling Diogo brought to him.  And I am SO very grateful to dear Dina, for literally making it possible day after day for us to see and know this character/amazing portrayal by Diogo.  Obrigada Dina, and obrigado Diogo for bringing another memorable character to life (and death) as only you could.

  1. Wow! What a powerful series! I hated Eduardo's lack of character, but loved Diogo's portrayal of him. It was so good to see Diogo in something completely opposite of The Bible or Son of God. Thank you so much Sara and Dina for allowing us to have this peek into Portuguese TV! I loved it! ............Nelda

  5. What a bitter-sweet ending to Eduardo. I'm going to miss him, as strange as that sounds. And I applaud Diogo for bringing this character to life with so many twists and turns that it made the viewer look at Eduardo in a love/hate sort of way. And then there are Sara and Dina, who put so much of their time into the translating & posting of this series so that we all could enjoy some more of Diogo's work. I give you ladies and standing ovation and nominate you for the Blog Award (if there was one, I would). Thank you so, so much for doing this for us Diogo supporters/fans. Greatly appreciated!
